How much carbon can we emit while limiting warming below 1.5°C?
It was very little and now it's even less.
In a new paper in @NatureClimate we update the @IPCC_CH carbon budget numbers with improved methods and new data. (1/n)

Global air temperatures remaining much higher than normal for the time of year.
And El Nino is only just starting.
We expect to see more devastating extreme weather events, especially in Australia, South America & Asia in the coming months.

Coastal impacts of sea level rise are not limited to inundation of low lying coastal areas (i.e. permanent flooding). Sea level rise will increase the frequency of extreme sea levels and associated episodic coastal flooding and coastal erosion. @ipcc @deltares @ihedelft
🌀 Excited to share that our latest research is published in @EarthsFutureEiC. Coastal flooding is increasing globally. Sea-level rise is a key factor, but changes in extremes could make things worse. Despite this, storm surge responses to a warmer climate are poorly understood

What can satellite data do for you? 🌊🛰️🌏

Analysis by NASA of high-resolution climate projections concludes that, if global temperatures keep rising and reach 2C above pre-industrial levels, people worldwide could face multiple impacts of climate change simultaneously, with serious consequences. climate.nasa.gov/news/3278/n…

Replying to @IPCC_CH
The IPCC is targeting energy production in the west, while ignoring China - solid evidence that this has nothing to do with climate, and everything to do with hurting western countries.

Current policies make it likely that #globalwarming will exceed 1.5°C during the 21st century & make it harder to limit warming below 2°C.

We should never forget that low lying island states #sids face an existential threat from climate change. Precisely why we should take ambitious #ClimateAction and not sink into despair. We have agency! @adelle_SIDS is there to remind us in #IPCC .

Recent research shows that long-term global changes in ocean wave conditions have not produced measurable recession of sandy coastlines.

I work on sea level rise, but it always remains striking to hear the future put this way:
Replying to @CommonsEAC
.@JFRumble, Head of the Polar Regions Department, @FCDOGovUK: "One of the main impacts of Arctic climate change on the UK will be through sea level rise... we will have to decide which areas of our coast to defend and which to let flood."
"long-term changes in oceanographic parameters (such as waves and storm surges) may still be too small to have a measurable impact on shoreline recession/progradation" @ihedelft @deltares
