people don’t realise they’re starting to sound like the parents in fjord acting like the film doesn’t show “enough” that the parents are physically abusing the children like do you also believe spanking doesn’t count or what?
like they don’t deny they spank the kids and we see the kids being reprimanded do you really need it spelled it out for you??? would the film be less “conservative” if u got a 10 minute montage of it??
that fact that liviu ciulei won best directing at cannes with padurea spanzuratilor and then never made another film
this idea didn’t come to mungiu in a dream and instead was inspired by a real event so yes there very much were people who believed the children should’ve been taken away
i am personally more inclined towards the latter and i don’t agree on some of mungiu’s more “centrist” takes but i also understand where some of it comes from
