It doesn’t take a PhD in biblical hermeneutics to understand that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
But it takes some biblical gymnastics to argue that Christian ends excuse the absence of fruit.

One of my concerns with much of American Christianity is that it seems to be predominantly defined by a cacophony of anger and fear.

It's wild how we often chastise the American church for being fans and not followers, but our ministry model is mostly attractional; a model that has proven to be insufficient if not accompanied by relational, disciple-making emphases.
If discipleship is "come to our building once and week and hear us preach and sing." why would we think they would be anything but fans?!

I have the same thoughts about @SlowToWrite (Samuel Sey) that I have with all undocumented (or potentially undocumented) immigrants who are living productive otherwise law-abiding lives in the country.
1) Detention is a last resort, not a first resort.
2) If there is *evidence* that they are flight risk (not just suspicion due to immigration status) use an ankle monitor.
3) Detain them if they've committed felonies or are otherwise a threat to the public.
Oh, and deportation isn't always the right answer. If a person is married to an American, has a job, and has American kids here then it's usually going to be bad for us and for them to deport. We should *want* productive, peaceful people and families in this country.
Border security is very good. We should control who gets in this country and limit immigration to a pace that sustainable, doesn't overwhelm social services, and doesn't overtax communities.
Interior enforcement -- especially when dealing with people who are living productive lives here -- can be more perilous. There's lots of consensus to get rid of criminals. Let's do that and then talk about the folks who are living good lives here in the U.S.
I think the Reagan approach in 1986 (legalization plus more border security) was correct. We failed, however, at border security in the years and decades that followed, and that is a key reason for our present crisis.

Yes. This is completely possible and not unusual. Welcome to America’s broken immigration system.
Now that you realize the injustice, please advocate for the 1000s of others this happens to, rather than continuing to cheer on this immoral mass deportation campaign.

I've seen a number of pastors and politicians telling other pastors to speak up more on politics. I've also seen a number of pastors telling people how they themselves will vote and how others should vote.

I will vote my conscience, which Jesus alone can bind, and do so with complete faith that neither America nor her politicians are our saviors, that this world is not my home, and that God is bigger than any election. So, don't assume you know who I'm voting for.

Weekly reminder from Lesslie Newbigin:
"When the Church tries to embody the rule of God in the forms of earthly power, it may achieve that power, but it is no longer a sign of the kingdom."

I’m so tired of being told that we must “vote for policies over people.” Can’t we have both? Where have all the statesmen gone? What happened to compassionate conservatives?

Could a Christian learn some common grace truth from a gay, “married,” transhumanist billionaire with two daughters born via surrogacy? Yes.
Should a Christian look to such a man for a theological lecture about the Antichrist?
Every person in the pews knows the answer to that.
Not someone I agree with on much, but she is 100% correct.
Hillary Clinton: “The Republican Party is no longer a political party, it is a cult devoted to Trump and Trump’s power. The Republican Party needs a total transformation. If we’re gonna have a healthy government that actually gets things done and delivers for people, the Republican Party has to purge itself of everybody that lost both their conscience and their backbone over the last ten years and that’s most of them”

Funny how the god of conservative Christianity has a huge problem with how people dress and who they love yet is completely unconcerned with greed, bigotry, senseless violence, and systemic injustice.
Just got this text message. The level of dishonesty and libel being committed by the right is disgusting.

"Pro-life" would be 20 Sandy Hook students voting in their first midterm election.
Just saying.
