Senior Congress leader and businessman Raminder Awla has joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) @Akali_Dal_ . Local observers see the move as a potential boost for the Akalis in Jalalabad, Sukhbir Singh Badal’s constituency, and say the “Awla factor” could have repercussions in other Malwa seats as well. Reports link his departure to discontent over local leadership decisions in the Guru Harsahai area, including the elevation of another Congress leader despite Awla’s objections. If so, a local grievance has now become a wider warning for the Congress. Some experts also believe Awla’s entry could add to the appeal of a possible BJP–SAD alliance.
