Today, that shared inheritance is fading. Across cities and villages alike, pollution has dimmed our skies and turned breathing into a daily concern. This crisis did not emerge overnight. It is the cumulative outcome of intensified agricultural cycles, rapid industrialisation, and rising vehicular density, all converging to strain the air we depend on. As farming practices evolved, biomass gradually lost its perceived value. Crop residue that once enriched soil and supported rural livelihoods came to be seen as a burden. Burning became the quickest solution. At the same time, industrial emissions and growing energy demand added to the load. The result is a reality where both rural and urban India bear the cost of inaction. It is against this backdrop that the 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 (𝐂𝐒𝐏𝐄) has been conceived, an industry-led platform dedicated to advancing India’s sustainability ambitions. CSPE is established under the patronage of 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢 𝐑.𝐒. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚, a distinguished technocrat and retired IAS officer with over four decades of public service. Former Secretary, MeitY; Chairman, TRAI; CEO, National Health Authority; and Director General, UIDAI, Shri Sharma has been at the forefront of landmark digital public infrastructures including Aadhaar, CoWIN, and Ayushman Bharat. As Patron of CSPE, he brings deep expertise across technology, policy, and governance to guide the creation of a robust and scalable biomass processing ecosystem in India. When agro-residue is aggregated and processed into pellets or torrefied fuel, it becomes a clean, reliable alternative to fossil fuels, while creating stable income opportunities for farmers. CSPE stands at the centre of this transformation, bringing together farmers, aggregators, manufacturers, innovators, and policymakers to build a sustainable, circular energy economy. This is not just an environmental mission. It is a national promise: to help India breathe again, restore clarity to the sky, and convert abundance into resilience.
