We’ve got beautiful clear skies over central Alabama this afternoon. Check out the moon and its waxing gibbous phase! @spann @amanduh_curran

We've got BEAUTIFUL clear, cool skies over Alabama this evening. Get outside and look up! (The Moon is in its first quarter phase with our next full Moon due on October 25th.) @spann @amanduh_curran @JoshWeather – at Blue Ridge, AL

This is M45, the Pleiades, about 440 light-years away as seen from Pike Road. These wispy clouds aren’t like those in Earth’s sky. They’re vast stretches of interstellar dust, scattering starlight to create beautiful blue reflection nebulae. @spann @amanduh_curran @JoshWeather

This is the Andromeda Galaxy (imaged in Pike Road) That ocean of individual stars filling the image? Nearly all belong to our own Milky Way. We’re looking through our own galaxy and 2.5 million lightyears of space to another galaxy. @spann @amanduh_curran @weswyattweather

NGC 7000 & IC 5070: the North America and Pelican Nebulae. There's a lot going on here: bright nebulae, dark molecular clouds, faint hydrogen emission, and an ocean of stars stretching across the frame. All of it 2000 light-years away. @spann @amanduh_curran @weswyattweather – at Alabama, USA

Tonight's Moon as seen from Pike Road. It's in a waxing crescent phase. We'll have a full Moon on September 26th. @spann @JoshWeather @amanduh_curran @weswyattweather – at Blue Ridge, AL

NGC 7000: The North America Nebula 2,500 lightyears away in Cygnus, this large nebula is filled with glowing hydrogen, dark dust lanes, and regions where new stars are actively forming. We get a glimpse of creation still in progress. @spann @amanduh_curran @JoshWeather – at Montgomery, AL

Tonight's waxing gibbous Moon through a thin veil of high clouds. The clouds softened the contrast a bit, but I actually like the atmosphere they added to the photo... @amanduh_curran @spann @JoshWeather – at Blue Ridge, AL

Last night, I got my large telescope out and the Moon (last quarter phase) was amazing looking. This photo is a mosaic composed of 10 different photos of the Moon, all stitched together. Zoom in and check the details!! @spann @amanduh_curran @JoshWeather @EricSnitilWx – at Montgomery, AL

The Moon, in its first quarter phase, as seen from Pike Road. On this day 57 years ago, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Eagle on the Sea of Tranquility (marked in the second image). @amanduh_curran @JoshWeather @spann – at Blue Ridge, AL

Finally had enough of a break in the clouds to get a photo of the Moon! The Moon is in its waxing gibbous phase and we're just about a week from a full Moon. @JoshWeather @amanduh_curran @spann – at Alabama, USA

The Pleiades (M45) shine in the constellation Taurus. They’re 440 light years away and those bright blue stars are moving through clouds of cosmic dust, lighting the dust up -just like a car’s headlights illuminate fog. @spann @JoshWeather @amanduh_curran

Captured this morning: Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS).That long tail is an ion tail, stretching millions of miles across space. The comet is visible with binoculars before sunrise. In a few weeks, it'll shift to the evening sky, becoming visible just after sunset. @spann

Winter nebula season is over; galaxy season has begun! This is the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51), located about 23 million light-years away. The small companion galaxy is interacting with M51,causing star formation and stretching material between the two galaxies. @spann @JoshWeather
