This week on the ABCA Podcast, Michael Avalon, ABCA/ATEC NJCAA Div. II Coach of the Year, Head Coach and Athletic Director at Pearl River Community College, discusses how he has built one of the premier junior college baseball programs in the country through establishing a championship culture.
Avalon dives into the importance of accountability, personal growth and developing young men, sharing the philosophy passed down from his father that has become a foundation of Pearl River baseball: Success, Organization, Attitude and Pride (SOAP).
He also shares why winning championships is only part of the equation, emphasizing that the true measure of success lies in the impact coaches make on their players and taking pride in every role they play.

Stays inside this pitch well and just easily flips this ball down the oppo line. Big, athletic frame that will be a high follow in the spring as a left-handed hitting catcher with a high power ceiling.

Hits this ball to the deepest part of the field for a massive 💣 !
The #2 ranked player in Mississippi and one of the best prospects in the class. Will stick at catcher long term and has a high ceiling for his power potential. High follow

Stays on plane well gets good extension lacing this ball down the line for a ground rule double. Big time strength should lead to power numbers at the next level. Plays a premium position.

Smokes this ball into the oppo gap. Strong, physical build that looks that part at the catcher position long term. Plus power potential. One of the best prospects in the 2029 class. High follow.

Baseball, and life…
Failure is inevitable.
You’re going to strike out.
You’re going to lose.
You’re going to get overlooked.
You’re going to fall short, even when you give everything you have.
Failure isn’t the end of your story.
Sometimes it’s the beginning of who you were meant to become.
You don’t build character by avoiding hard moments.
You build it by refusing to let them break you. 💯🙌
