Broke 1K foods logged yesterday via MCP. This is with very little to no promotion; people are organically discovering it. Working towards an official launch soon!

It was fun getting behind a mic and in front of a camera to record a quick podcast with @stephenrobles yesterday. We talked about third-party apps and Siri AI (a topic that I'm particularly passionate about!). Check it out on Apple Podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

🚨 Surprise bonus Primary Tech Show! After trying Siri AI with third-party apps, I wanted to learn what's really happening. @ryanashcraft, creator of Foodnoms, explains the limitations and what the ideal integration could look like: Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… Overcast: overcast.fm/+BTMNJ5JsyI

Foodnoms is ready for iOS 27! This update makes it easier to use Foodnoms AI with a redesigned search bar. It still looks and feels like a compact search bar, but grows and adapts to longer queries. This reduces the number of taps required to start an AI query.

Icon Composer icons take up a ton of space. Foodnoms’ primary icon and seven alts use over 40 MB before compression and thinning.

Oh look, a first-party app with tabs AND an action button, sitting on the same row! I knew this day would come eventually.

Foodnoms has a new custom (mostly vibecoded) search engine, which just went live for everyone today. It replaces an off-the-shelf, cloud-based service. I'm able to optimize the new one in ways that weren't possible before, and I'll be saving a lot of $$$

I split live traffic between the two for a week, and results are better than I expected! Searches led to a logged food about 9% more often, and people picked the first result 62% of the time, vs 56%.

One more Siri AI Feedback: "Siri onscreen awareness silently filters custom (non-schema) AppEntity types even when they conform to Transferable" From the device logs, this seems intentional, but it feels unnecessarily limiting. The docs do not mention this requirement.

Filed 5 specific Feedbacks against Siri and App Intents, based on an investigation with Foodnoms and Siri logging profile installed: 1. Type to Siri never matches App Shortcut phrases on iOS 27.0 beta: typing a verbatim phrase launches the app instead of running the intent.

5. Siri on iOS 27.0 beta lets Apple Health compete for an utterance that explicitly names a third-party app and matches its registered App Shortcut phrase verbatim "Check Foodnoms fiber goal" leads to prompt about Apple Health, despite exact match of App Shortcut phrase.

These are discrete, actionable issues that could have a noticeable impact on the perceived reliability and intelligence of Siri AI for many apps. I believe strongly Siri-invoked App Shortcuts are ripe, low-hanging fruit. Today, they are extremely broken. Huge opportunity here.

Anyone had any luck with Siri AI and AppShortcuts? AppShortcuts have historically been recommended for integrating AppIntents with Siri that aren't relevant to a SiriKit or AppIntent schema domain. This integration has always been iffy, but it seems even worse with Siri AI.

Foodnoms has officially hit $50K MRR. Bootstrapped with no full-time employees. Took 6 and a half years to get here. The grind never stops. Still working to make the product better every day. I love this little app. Glad others do too!
