I miss the old NZ. The feeling that we were all one. Māori and Pākehā living alongside each other with mutual respect, sharing songs, stories and traditions because we genuinely wanted to learn. We welcomed newcomers, but our communities still felt distinctly Kiwi. We valued hard work, opportunity and getting ahead. We were proud to be clean, green & looked after our beautiful country. Littering was a sin, respecting our elders was a given, & good old-fashioned manners mattered. We weren’t perfect, but there was a sense of unity, belonging and shared identity. I miss that feeling. 🇳🇿
