NHTSA published a 6k+ page PDF it received as part of one of its investigations and redacted everything. Good stuff. static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/201…

mitsu said: we couldn't confirm if biz info was in our docs, so we're saying all of it is and will let you know if some of it isn't. unclear if nhtsa ever pressed mitsu, because 6 years on, all i see is the fully redacted letter: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/201… static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/201…

Did you buy a “new” Jeep Patriot this quarter? Are you a dealer with six actual Dodge Darts? Show yourself

The company is prepared to work with the administration to further invest in its U.S. manufacturing footprint, the email says, "but we need time to make these changes without engatively impacting the business and our customers."

nhtsa is providing records on a rolling basis for an old foia request i made and every month it's just a confidentiality request from a particular OEM and NHTSA's response granting that request. several months of this now, it's great

Might take a decade to process at this cadence and the most info possibly gleaned from this will probably be that OEMs sent information to NHTSA about a particular thing

Well, more @wsj layoffs today. Dow Jones stock is up, margins are up, there’s a new windfall AI deal in place and we’re cutting good reporters.

Stellantis introduced a new bonus program for dealers this month that pays $ if they hit a sales target, but it has an unusual twist: the program is structured so the bonus is tied to how many cars are shipped to their store. wsj.com/business/autos/stell…

fiat brand sold less cars in the U.S. than rolls royce in april, per industry data. does anyone know if there is a fiat-only storefront in the U.S., i've poked around periodically for a long while and still do not know

not the least bit surprising but in fy23 nhtsa was the slowest on average among the transportation department's agencies to respond to simple foia requests

NHTSA (it seems) proactively sought a public version of this document, albeit redacted. Unclear if it's wholly redacted, or in part, as it's never been published. No idea why.

I'm sure if I squint someone could argue this has something to do with Argus, which, whatever. But this probe's gone on a very long time, and the agency's apparently in possession of stuff the OEMs already think is public. Just publish it.
