Developing WP Themes with core navigation block? Frustrated by the block closing when you focus out?
Deactivate the focus out attribute during development to save time. (Code in Caption)
ALT add_filter( 'render_block_core/navigation', function( $content ){ $p = new WP_HTML_Tag_Processor ( $content ); if ( $p->next_tag( array( 'class_name' => 'wp-block-navigation__responsive-container' ) ) ) { $p->remove_attribute( 'data-wp-on--focusout' ); } return $p->get_updated_html(); });

If I have to email event organizers to ask for accessibility info, it means I have to ask, "am I welcome?"
Consider how it feels to have to do that, knowing the majority of the time, the answer is "no."
Give access info up front. Don't make disabled people beg for inclusion.

the web is where people’s lives happen. they complete important tasks; they work; they spend time in community. when we make the web inaccessible, when we allow harmful behavior to thrive, we tell vulnerable people that they do not deserve community. i refuse to accept that.

I cannot say this enough. If you code for the #WordPress block editor, USE the block editor. Learn how it works, how it communicates with the user. Learn how CORE works, without any added stuff.

“Oftentimes, I hear in communities that people with disabilities just have to understand that sometimes their needs can’t or won’t be met.
We shouldn’t be that community. WCUS can be more accessible.” - @michelleames

I have a tech rant in me (who's surprised) and I'm using current ao3 💿🐴 as a tangent diving board
about how modern technology and the way we interact with it feeds a certain "learned helplessness" - and how we can only relate to technology as consumers

I don't want 'a11y'; I want disability justice, for all disabled people, in all environments. An accessible web would be an expression of that justice. To get there, we have to understand the systems that got us *here*, which tech is so desperate to not consider.

After a great #WCMontclair yesterday, we grabbed breakfast sandwiches and drove to the South Mountain dog park. Lemon got to run around, meet other dogs, and play herself out 💚
ALT Lemon, a brindled medium sized dog, sits between a person's legs. She's smiling (or panting). In the background is the gravel of the dog park and the forest surrounding it.
