Okay I’ve finally figured out what it is about her dancing that bothers me. I’ve been thinking about this for YEARS.
I’m a stripper. I’ve been a stripper since age 18. I’m also ex Mormon and left the church around age 13, and then left Utah for the first time at age 18, while still a VERY conservative person.
For the first few years “dancing sexy” felt like a betrayal of my Mormon upbringing. I became obsessed with doing cool pole tricks to avoid being sexy for customers. All the girls kept telling me to “loosen up” because I looked stiff — just like Taylor.
It wasn’t until a group of 6 girls at my first club came together to do a two hour workshop JUST FOR ME. They taught me how to “feel myself” and how to let go of the religious shame and self-slut shaming that kept me so stiff.
I can see that attitude in her performance — this idea that if she goes full sex kitten and FEELS HERSELF that it’ll be a betrayal of her values.
