Attacks on data centers are dominating headlines, ranging from run of the mill environmental claims to obscure and even bizarre issues. The broader dynamic should look familiar, because a very similar playbook was used against fracking. 🧵

🚨Qatar, sitting on the world's largest gas field, just signed up to buy big volumes of American #LNG through 2054. Let that sink in. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan's 1984 campaign ad, It's Morning in America's LNG Industry. Key points: • Cheniere signed deals to supply @QatarEnergyLNG with up to 4 million tonnes a year from #SabinePass in Louisiana and Corpus Christi in Texas. Deliveries start in 2031. • Reuters reports Qatar is also in advanced talks with @Venture_Global for at least 3 million more tonnes a year. • Why? With #Hormuz largely blocked and Ras Laffan damaged, the world's #2 LNG exporter is buying a hedge on the U.S. Gulf Coast. • The price gap is enormous. Asian spot LNG hit $29.30/MMBtu last week, while Henry Hub sits around $2.84. That's roughly 10 to 1. • U.S. LNG feedgas demand topped a record 20 Bcf/d on Oct. 19 as Golden Pass ramps up. • And the fear that exports would drive up U.S. prices? It was never anything more than a leftwing talking point. Not happening. Storage is 35 Bcf above the five-year average, and Henry Hub is under $3. The lesson here is simple: when even your competitors sign 20-plus-year contracts for your product, the debate is over. American #naturalgas isn't a short-lived "bridge fuel." It's the backbone of global energy security, and the world's buyers are voting with their checkbooks. There is no #energytransition. There is #energyaddition, and American gas is leading it. [Full breakdown in today's Energy Additions – Link in the next post.]

🚨2026 Is the Gasoline Price Election, Not the Data Center Election My new piece at the @DailyCaller has all the details. Key points: ◾️Obama urged Democrats to center 2026 midterms on data centers, but voters have other priorities. ◾️Obama’s bait-and-switch: In mid-September, he told candidates to seize on data center issues as the campaign centerpiece. He warned growth “in private hands” could be dangerous if unchecked, yet called it beneficial for drug development and a “clean energy future.” ◾️It's a classic Democrat play: stoke fear for power, then flip once in office. ◾️Data centers are a non-factor: A new Infrastructure For America report shows the issue is nearly invisible in key governor and Senate races (GA, IA, OH, MI, TX). Only 5% of paid ads mentioned data centers. ◾️Healthcare (19%), affordability (25%), and corruption/personal attacks (32%) dominate. “If this is the data center election, then someone forgot to tell the campaigns… spending millions on TV advertising.” ◾️The real driver is fuel prices: Gas is up ~40% and diesel has doubled since late February, mainly due to the Iran Conflict. The cause is unambiguous, so voters face a clear tradeoff: is denying Iran nuclear weapons worth the pain at the pump? ◾️Possible midterm fallout: Independents and some Republicans may conclude prices are too high and, as Scott Jennings put it, “put my face in a woodchipper and elect Democrats.” Dems could flip Congress and several governorships on Nov. 3—but not from astroturf data-center opposition. It will be because gasoline and diesel prices are too damn high. Voters prioritize filling their tanks over abstract fights about AI infrastructure. Affordability always matters; this year’s spike makes it decisive. [Link to full story in the next post.] #gasoline #Diesel #datacenters #trump #Iran #Ukraine #Russia #refining

In this week's installment of USOGA's "The More You Know" we explain how: 125 miles of pipeline moves cheap energy to 3 million households in the Northeast. Unless environmental NGOs' decide those 3 million people don't deserve cheap energy -- or at least certain type of cheap energy. And we show why permit reform is needed to stop NGOs from making those types of decisions for the rest of us.... Here you go.

on one hand, this counts as a counter-intuitive take these days. but it should be obvious -- take a look, for instance, at this scatterplot of states by average residential electricity rates and also number of data centers. there is no correlation.
New analysis concludes "data centers have not caused electric rates to increase in most places" via @Edison_Electric

In today's edition of "LNG export critics are wrong about prices," let's take a look at actual natural gas prices. Europe? Soaring. Asia? Soaring. U.S. (largest LNG exporter in the world)? Stable.

U.S. LNG exports have increased 25% since January 2025. U.S. natural gas prices are flat. This same phenomenon has been happening since the U.S. began exporting LNG in 2016. A decade of data.
