How a simple post in LinkedIn led to a rare venture deal with Aphelion Capital It was an unusually severe weekend even for Dallas in June — with very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Patrick Wayte got up and a LinkedIn post caught his eye — @LightningAI announcing Kanza AI’s Clinical Reasoning System on NVIDIA Infra and he immediately reached out to me saying congratulations on the announcement and we should chat. I was not connected to Patrick, but his words carried a lot of meaning “We’ve been looking for a company like you for the last 4 years.” What was in that post that he was able to deeply understand what Kanza AI had secretly built? That one decision led to some incredible outcomes in the last 4 months. On June 1st, we had quietly launched our latest version on Dr Jan Rydfors request to only invite the master physicians to use clinically. In just a few weeks, we knew we had something that was at the cutting edge of AI. Over my years at Apple, we had learned to recognize when a product has an inflection point. Dr. Rydfors came to me with other unusual requests — that Kanza should not be a typical Silicon Valley company led only by tech given physicians were co-developing this with us — and asked if we could also have healthcare co-own a part of us. At the same time, Patrick also connected us to Aphelion Capital, who ran their own diligence process led by Ned Scheetz their venture capital team and physicians led by John Kim using the Kanza platform and also asked if they could invest. Given our last Series A round was in December 2024, and unlike other Healthcare and Frontier AI labs, we had not yet announced any mega rounds, we did something rare – we decided to go back and topped up our last Series A to say thank you. Kanza AI welcomes @AphelionCapital as an investor along with physicians and healthcare insiders. This completes the Kanza AI designated reserve set aside for investments in its Series A, (December 2024) for healthcare organizations, leaders and physicians to share in helping build and invest in Kanza AI's clinical reasoning intelligence platform.
