Estes Energy Solutions emerged from stealth and plans to bring large-scale magnesium thixomolding to the US 🇺🇸 Thixomolding long stayed under ~5 kg. Chinese programs are already trying to scale bigger. @estesenergy targets a US giga-thixo machine at roughly 30 kg per shot, one part per minute, for the first half of 2027. The idea is to build a monocast thermo-structural magnesium battery module that is structure, heat path and high-voltage enclosure. Coolant channels cast into the structural skin. Proprietary alloy and coating tackle flammability and corrosion. They are securing US/allied feedstock and domestic manufacturing for supply security. Founded 2024 by Tesla/Sila/Cummins engineers. $11M seed co-led by BMW i Ventures and Fortescue. Target: mass-constrained high duty cycle applications — rail, marine, aviation, Class 8. Non-cell mass is the new ceiling for battery packs. A lighter structural metal formed as one load-bearing shell is the direct response proposed by Estes which aims to scale the process in America to deliver it. 📰Full article: industryarsenal.com/p/estes-… ❌ Don't leave your insights to chance with the X algorithm ✅ Subscribe for free to my weekly newsletter about all things Gigacasting and magnesium Thixomolding: industryarsenal.com 📬

I am 35 years old, today. And I've come a long way: ▸ 221 million miles around Earth's axis ▸ 20.4 billion miles around the Sun ▸ 158 billion miles around the galactic center ▸ 253 billion miles through the universe

If you're a young adult optimizing for high impact in the world. Do manufacturing. It's not sexy, but it’s the backbone of nearly every meaningful industry.

We don't publish much about @magratheametals' technology pilot work because it's highly need-to-know with external stakeholders. However I'm gosh-darn gobsmacked by what our team has pulled off and I'm going to brag about them now.

this car isn't even close to a porsche taycan. if people were honest they'd do side by side comparisons but of course that breaks the narrative.
The more Chinese car reviews I watch, the more I want to short the entire Western car industry. With the Xiaomi SU7 you get: •Ferrari-level exterior design (basically a Purosangue rip-off) •German-level interior finish •Tesla-like performance, range, and UX All for 50% less than any competitor. Last month I drove an Xpeng G9 and it made a model Y look like a cheap android phone. Meanwhile, the EU is still debating whether air conditioning is fascist or not.

As Syrians jubilate, I’m thinking of @anthonyshadid: deadline poet, wise learner, bon vivant, mensch. & many more who’ve died trying to build a better #syria or document that struggle. Wish they saw this day 🙏💜🥹

Spoke at @StanfordEnergy on how Li-ion/Na-ion trickle-down manufacturing alone can't scale more sustainable batteries. Standard Potential Co. (@StandPotential) is tackling this to minimize _both_ minerals & manufacturing for sodium-ion 🔋, btw: spun up by me & @RichardCLMay!

Yesterday, during peak energy demand (8:10pm), the largest energy supplier to the California grid was... batteries. Expect to see a lot more of this in the near future.

8/17 Hamas's armed resistance is aimless, useless, meaningless & politically directionless; the group uses slick propaganda to sell illusions & "resistance porn" to its people & hide its failures and role in the annihilation of Gaza through its miscalculations & poor decisions

“Today, in a paper published in Nature, we share the discovery of 2.2 million new crystals – equivalent to nearly 800 years’ worth of knowledge. We introduce Graph Networks for Materials Exploration (GNoME), our new deep learning tool that dramatically increases the speed and efficiency of discovery by predicting the stability of new materials. With GNoME, we’ve multiplied the number of technologically viable materials known to humanity. Of its 2.2 million predictions, 380,000 are the most stable, making them promising candidates for experimental synthesis. Among these candidates are materials that have the potential to develop future transformative technologies ranging from superconductors, powering supercomputers, and next-generation batteries to boost the efficiency of electric vehicles.” deepmind.google/discover/blo…

*Metal decarbonization* is essential for deep decarbonization. Electrolysis is an elegant solution and is now being pursued for decarbonizing ironmaking and other industrial processes. However, aluminum is already electrolytic and is still stubbornly CO2 intense. Why? 🧵(1/19)

Israel is not a perfect country. We are struggling with a never-ending conflict, the folly of our government at times, and racism. But this is true for most countries. It's also a vibrant democracy. And by vibrant, I mean this: Dr. Fares Darawshe from Shiba Hospital, an Israeli Palestinian (20% of Israelis are Arabs), is playing music with his patient, Staff Sergeant Mordechay Shnaveld, who was badly injured in a battle with Hamas in Gaza. They are playing Umm Kulthum's famed 'Enta Omri,' loved across the region. Around them are Hasidic Ultra-Orthodox Jews (Karlin). Israel is not perfect, but it is the most free, democratic, and heterogeneous country in the Middle East. And it represents the region's best chance
