To be clear: Some facts are neither in dispute nor unclear. Our photographer was clearly marked as Press. She was clearly beaten. These are not partisan or risible statements, but indisputable. We urge a thorough investigation and accountability.
The Prime Minister’s Office:
The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.
Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.
But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.
The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.
We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.
The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

Horrified by what happened to our dear friend Heidi Levine while she was on assignment today.
“They just kept kicking me and kicking me,” she said.

The kind of event that she has covered, time and time again, in the West Bank. She and @sammy_westfall recently published this in-depth piece looking at settler violence in the West Bank, which @Heidiphotos worked on tirelessly, for months.

Asked why reporters had been instructed to lower the window shades on the plane, Trump said that it was “because you’re probably on a dangerous flight."
“But if I go, you go. Right?" Trump added. “Perhaps someday you want to change professions”
Scoop: Trump flew secretly from Turkey on an alternate military aircraft unbeknownst to journalists and some White House staff members who believed they were on the same plane as the president, The Post has learned. w/ @DanLamothe @abtran & @joyceslee washingtonpost.com/national-…

How did this happen? We’re told Trump boarded the legacy Air Force One in Turkey.
But moments later, he secretly moved from that jet to a smaller C-32A that was parked nearby. He moved from one jet to the next aboard an airport catering truck, out of sight from the media.

ALT “The appearance of Federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects. Our journalists report the facts and advance the American public’s right to know how their government is operating and their taxpayer dollars are being used. This brazen act should be seen as nothing more than an attempt to prevent the public from knowing what is happening in their country by intimidating journalists from doing their jobs.” — David McCraw, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel

The International desk of the @washingtonpost was one of the most special places in journalism. It was sadly dismantled but I’m so proud of all my colleagues there and where they are all going. The @nytimes is so lucky to have @emilyrauhala

PERSONAL NEWS: I've joined the @NewYorker full-time as a global-affairs columnist, where I'll be writing a weekly essay on the world. It's a dream gig and I'm still pinching myself that I get to say all these incredible, talented journalists I've long admired are my colleagues!

Three months later, this is my last @washingtonpost story — delayed because nearly everyone involved in it was laid off. I am very grateful to newsroom friends who made sure it published anyway, and to brave Roman Mongold and his family for their time.

Some of the ceasefire’s key details remain unclear, significant gaps remain between Washington and Tehran’s respective plans, and traffic is yet to resume in the Strait of Hormuz… a rocky ceasefire start.
