this reminds me of an article i wrote about player evaluation in counter-strike for ESPN in a former lifetime

but there are clear pitfalls to avoid. it's easy for narratives to structure our inquiry when we perform player evaluations, and that leads to confirmation bias, motivated reasoning, and bad evaluation. the explanation should be the result of inquiry, not the beginning.
