As Christianity spread throughout the world, the Christian Church designated November 1 as All Saints Day, with the preceding evening becoming All Hallows' Eve or Halloween. The tradition persisted and transformed through several key developments: SOUL CAKES: In the Middle Ages, poor people would go door-to-door begging for food, specifically soul cakes, in exchange for praying for the dead; this practice, known as "souling," is a direct precursor to modern trick-or-treating. GUISING: In Scotland and Ireland, children and young adults dressed in disguises (guising) and performed songs, poems, or jokes in exchange for treats, a custom that helped transition the holiday from a solemn vigil to a more festive occasion. IMMAGRATION: Irish and Scottish immigrants brought these customs to North America in the 19th century, where they gradually evolved into the widespread, candy-focused trick-or-treating ritual seen today. Originally, Halloween, Hallows' Eve, was a solemn occasion to ward off evil. It comes the day before the holy day, All Saints Day, November 1, a day we honor the Sainted who by their actions and words carried Jesus message through the ages. The tradition is over 2,000 years old. The custom of treating evil spirits on the eve of All Saints Day originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where people believed the boundary between the living and the dead thinned, allowing spirits to roam the earth. To ward off these potentially malevolent forces, Celts would light bonfires and leave food offerings outside their homes, a practice that evolved into the modern tradition of trick-or-treating. - Many resources including providencejournal.com, ewtn.com, americamagazine.com, christianity.com, were used to research this topic.

Folks have said we need term limits to get rid of bad legislators, both in states and in Congress. My state already has it. Both good and bad legislators are termed. I'm not sure term limits will change the power and money grab that entices legislators to stay for 40 years or more. It will definitely shorten their time in DC, but will it make them pay more attention to the folks back home? I doubt it. It doesn't take years for legislators to become disconnected from their constituents. The disconnect appears to happen soon after they arrive in DC with the power LOANED to them by their constituents. All of a sudden they are wiser than the folks back home who don't speak congressional language. During their short time in DC, they have already learned how REAL power works. It appears folks back home just don't understand how you keep power in Congress, one lawmaker once told me. You play the game for appointments & favors from the leaders, and dollars (he called them cookies) from lobbyist & PACs for your next campaign. Legislators always have someone else to blame for their inactions and wrong actions - the other side of the aisle, the wording of a bill (they probably haven't read), the leadership, the executive branch, or my favorite, "That will be handled in another bill," which, by-the-way, never comes to the floor. Some even say they haven't heard otherwise from their constituents, even though they have not reaching out to them to see what they think. Long before the first year of their term has come about, the folks back home have nothing to offer them until next election, where once again they will make promises, excuses and place blame.

This is amazing. Nature is full of surprises.
Rare zebra foal with spots instead of stripes Look at this. A plains zebra foal in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, standing right next to its mother, covered in dark brown patches and white spots instead of the stripes every other zebra has

Not touching the little heart icon to show I like your comment since Musk is adding "Long Press" to the Like heart without telling how long LONG is. I'm not on X social media to earn a living or get paid for someone to like what I post. I thought social media was SOCIAL. Liking my posts is enough for me. Your dollars won't make me like you more. I don't even know how to use the monetary part of X and not interested in learning.

So this is it!! I'm not posting because this is an amazing picture, but because it's an amazing bird! This is the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker and it is super rare (though in 2024 it moved from endangered to threatened). It's easy to mistake it for a downy but you can see the differences on the facial markings. These guys only nest inside living pines, preferably ones with red heart fungus because it makes it easier for them to excavate and make its home. This was a big one, maybe even THE big one for me up to this point and I couldn't be happier

An Illinois mom was home alone with her infant late at night when paroled burglar Shelby Hurd forced entry into her Joliet home. She hid the baby in a bedroom closet, armed herself with a handgun, and shot him in the head as he entered the room. Police found Hurd wearing gloves and carrying a screwdriver. He had a history of burglary convictions and had only been released on parole months earlier. Nice aim. The woman, who remains anonymous, cooperated with investigators and faces no charges. Police treated it as a justified self-defense shooting. This is a prime example why we don’t give up our guns.

Saturday's weird story out of Arkansas for you is quite unique. What Arkansas town holds a festival featuring a goat parade, goat costume contests, and even a GOAT LINGERIE SHOW? The answer is Perryville, in Perry County and this is the story behind it The Arkansas Goat Festival started on October 1, 2016, when two women, Sarah French and Liz van Dalsem, were looking for ways to attract visitors to downtown Perryville. Someone suggested a goat parade, and the idea took off. The first festival attracted approximately 1,200 people. Eventually, attendance reached around 8,000 in some years. Over time, organizers added goat races, costume contests, goat yoga, a talent show called America's Goat Talent, celebrity goat-milking competitions, and yes, a goat lingerie show. Perryville even established a municipal park specifically for goats. The festival celebrated its tenth anniversary on October 3, 2026. Sorry I am late with the info because I am sure some of you might want to have a good laugh seeing it. I would have gone myself for photos had I known. Has anybody actually attended this festival? I'd love to hear about it!

Well, look who followed me today! A brave Ukrainian soldier who apparently lives in India, uses the Israeli App Store, and just changed his username this month. This poor fellow is fighting a war, traveling internationally, and managing his social media all at the same time! I’m sure he’s legitimate. I mean, what could possibly be suspicious about any of that? Thank you, Elon for giving us the opportunity to see where these scam artists are from.

A Florida attorney, Lisa White, 70, walked into a Mississippi gun store and told them she needed a gun to kill ICE agents. She asked if the bullets would go through their body armor. When they said no, she said she’d just shoot them in the head. HSI came in and arrested her. She’s now sitting in jail without bond on federal threat charges. This is what the left’s “resistance” looks like now!
