Mmm, I know they're plenty busy but discouraging when the local places meant for you don't have a spot for a reading or shelving
Love Darwish. Thinking poetry—reading and writing it—changes our relationship with language and thus the world, the layers of reality we see, hear, contemplate. Changes our interface. And maybe that ripples in ways we can’t always track 🤔

By "accessible" they simply mean "what I, who stopped reading in adolescence, find reasonable to take the time to understand, and that amount of time cannot exceed how long it takes to compose a tweet."

The idea that you might need to continue to learn how to read—because a text demands a different framework or further critical imagination—should not be an abhorrent one. I think it's exciting, that there continue to be texts, forms, idioms I don't yet know how to (fully) read.

This app has to be 90% ragebait because what some accounts call "obscure" writing I think is completely approachable, even heavy-handed. And what they declare as "accessible" in a way that's lost or severely underappreciated is actually canon/what every high schooler is assigned.

Everyone (including me) always highlights the lines, "Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. / Just keep going. No feeling is final." But today I keep going back to the later lines, "Nearby is the country they call life. / You will know it by its seriousness."

ALT Go to the Limits of Your Longing by Rainer Maria Rilke tr. Joanna Macy & Anita Barrows God speaks to each of us as he makes us, then walks with us silently out of the night. These are the words we dimly hear: You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Don’t let yourself lose me. Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness. Give me your hand.
