Jess Philips is a committed and caring minister, and you, sir, are a toxic gonad. The UK is not your plaything, wealth doesn’t exempt you from international law, and owning X doesn’t give you license to poison the discourse of any country whose government you disagree with.

Instead of nightclubs I want a 24hr library with hot chocolate stations, a dessert bar, coffee machine, big comfy chairs and beanbags, blankets, dogs welcome, just people who want to spend the evening reading alone, together, peaceful, a cosy fire, plants, an indoor waterfall.

Many are heading off to University Open Days at the moment here's a few starters on costs , marketing and more (feel free to add yours)...
1) If a big name Professor is speaking - ask 'what are your contact hours with undergraduates' some only do research and are just wheeled out for the day to be in the shop window.
2) Accommodation costs are more important these days. Student maintenance loans have not kept up with inflation (Eng) and most students don't get the full loan (parents are expected to fill some of the gap). So while tuition fees are standard, what really counts if ongoing cost of living.
3) If they tell you about well-known alumni, check what course they did, some spread their famous former students reps widely.
4) Find out what's actually taught and how its taught. If it's a practical course make sure you see the labs and the studios and ask what access you'll have.
Overall, don't be afraid to ask questions. This isn't school, it's a sales pitch. Speak to existing students on the course if you can, for an honest appraisal.

The Tories pretending to throw in the towel is but the latest attempt at voter suppression. They can’t fight on their record or their leaders or their plans. All they have left is this supermajority nonsense. They want you to think it is
all over already so you don’t need to vote. You do. No vote = no change. Take joy in voting out the worst government in history. Be part of something seismic.
I couldn’t hug my mum at my dad’s funeral. A funeral we were allowed 10 people at. Dad’s oldest friends couldn’t even be there to mourn. My 1-year-old son saw his family through the window at Christmas. All the while, this is what THEY were doing. #ToriesOut

When you watched Johnson lie every fucking day, you had no power.
When you found out the Tories gave billions to their mates, you had no power.
When your mortgage increased because of that useless twat Truss, you had no power.
Tomorrow you have power.
Use it

Everyone knows Labour are going to win the election, but if you’re feeling like there’s no point in voting as the outcome is a foregone conclusion, I’d like to draw your attention to something really radical that is on offer tomorrow: 1/8

East of England, do you know who your tactical vote is on Thursday?
Lending votes to these candidates can not just stop your local Tory but ensure the Lib Dems become the official opposition rather than the Tory party

Only you should be kissing your baby. 💋
We can probably all agree that there is nothing more kissable than an infant. I mean… those chubby little cheeks almost demand it.
But especially in the earliest weeks and months of life, it’s best to exercise caution when it comes to their exposure to kisses.
Why?
Kissing can expose babies to any of a number of viral threats, from the common cold, to RSV, Herpes Simplex 1 (cold sores) and more at a time during which they remain particularly susceptible to infection.
Because their immune systems remain immature, germs we as adults might easily repel can become quite problematic for newborns.
There are some who suggest that even parents avoid kissing newborns. I don’t know that this is an entirely realistic expectation - and worry that the guidance competes with attachment during a time that parents and children are establishing developmentally significant bonds.
(What’s more, because they are already in SUCH close contact, children’s primary caregivers are likely to be exposing them to certain germs regardless.)
But being judicious about the placement of even parental kisses - avoiding contact with the nose, mouth and hands - is a good idea. (This is especially critical if you believe you may be infected or having an outbreak yourself.)
Primary caregivers aside, this we know for certain:
What infants don’t need is an endless parade of relatives and friends smooching all over them.
For the same reason it’s appropriate to ask people to wash their hands before holding your baby, it’s important that you advocate for your child in the same way here.
It can be an awkward conversation to have with well intentioned family and friends - especially if you don’t set the ground rules up front.
Rather than intervening after the kissing has already begun, it’s much easier to say, “we’ve been advised that it’s really important to avoid kissing right now to protect her little immune system.”
Just add it in to the handwashing conversation. Everyone will understand - some may simply need a little education.
After all, it is super tempting!

Thank you @hannahsbee for this exceptionally important piece on birth trauma. In no other part of the NHS are patients treated so abominably. PTSD, cruelty, life-changing birth injuries… horrific for the women involved.
