Here's @PeterTatchell's chapter in 'Betrayal of Youth' (BOY). Right under 'How To Make Paedophilia Acceptable'.

Furthermore, please stop describing CHILDREN as "lesbian, gay or bisexual". Children do not have sexual orientations. They are children. If you mean young people whose sexuality is emerging, make that clear. You of all people should have learnt to be extremely careful about this.

In 1954, a Native American chief on horseback visited his son, a soldier on active duty in the United States Army, immortalizing the encounter between two generations of warriors.

Notice the very first second of this video clip, where Lindsay Lohan pulls her skirt down. Then notice how she's sitting right on the edge of the sofa, leaning away from Russell. She looks visibly uncomfortable.

This is how you looked at him. You literally batted your eyelashes at him.
I've met Russell Brand twice (I think): Once when I hosted a Guardian Live event about his book in 2014. Another time I interviewed him for The Big Issue when I was guest editing in 2015. He also gave my publishers an endorsement for my book The Establishment, which I was mortified about at the time mostly because I thought it was so OTT it would obviously invite ridicule (which it did). At the time I saw him as a crude means to reach disillusioned younger people with left-wing politics - the sort of people who wouldn't be reached by conventional left-wing journalists and politicians. As a result I was willing to overlook, or just not look into, his history of problematic behaviour / statements, including sexism. I convinced myself that he was on some sort of journey and that was a good thing. That was an obvious misjudgement. I did think he was a bit of a chancer / had a messianic complex, but overlooked that too as a necessary evil in reaching disengaged people. But that was clearly his main driving force and he clearly ended up concluding that right-wing politics was a better vehicle to satisfy it. It's an important lesson in not stupidly engaging clearly problematic figures, however charismatic or however much mass appeal they have, in the service of a cause. What I would say is that right now we should be centring the survivors of a rapist and sexual predator. I personally don't really think those trying to point score have his survivors' interests at heart. I would also argue that those with the big questions to answer are the right-wing figures who continue to stand by him and spread conspiratorial nonsense in his defence. Finally, let's hope that other possible survivors of Russell Brand feel able to come forward.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Jones also provided a blurb for Brand's book Revolution ("Funny, full of charm, and engaging") and wrote 2015 Guardian columns praising Brand's Labour endorsement and defending engagement with him. theguardian.com/commentisfree/… theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I think a lot about this scene in 24 Hour Party People where a homeless guy talks about Boethius and the Wheel of Fortune; it's contrived for the film, I know, but it represents something lost now; the strand of working-class intellectualism, where poor men were proud of going to the library and learning for learning's sake, Rita studying her bewks, Plays For Today, a time when references to ancient philosophy could be freely inserted into popular media without commissioners quashing them under the patronising assumption that 'ordinary people might not get it'; instead of the crab-mentality false consciousness instilled during the 00s and 10s - the Shameless On C4, Benefits Britain, Footie And Love Island Middle Aisle of B&M coding - where intellectual aspirations are seen as stupid and unbefitting of one's caste. Just heard on STV news that (HRT) shortages continue to impact women across Scotland and the wider UK, heavily driven by a massive, ongoing surge in national demand. When is @NHS going to stop prescribing it to men when women who really need it for menopause etc can’t get it?

Reading David Walliams’ book “The Boy in the Dress” made me realise that, against the odds, I still have it in me to be naive on matters of gender identity. I imagined the book (aimed at 8-12-year-olds) to be a clumsy celebration of so-called gender non-conformity. I imagined a boy who likes pink and princesses, perhaps facing some pushback from classmates and family, ultimately being at peace with wearing a dress and embracing his feminine side. I imagined a book that I’d have some issues with, but which I might not dismiss entirely. After all, gender incongruence/gender non-conformity is a marvellous and often natural thing. Boys can like pink. Maybe the book had something positive to say, even if I had to overlook some nonsense, I thought. The book is so much worse than that…so much worse than I imagined possible for any book aimed at kids. It’s creepy as anything. Here are a few extracts…
