Hi everyone, I'm a MSc student in the Kidd Lab and I'm studying whether a hungry little caterpillar called the spruce budworm affects mercury cycling in stream food webs.. #LaurentianPrarieResearch @LaurentianSETAC (1/)

From poster to paper!
How does spruce budworm defoliation impact in-stream algal production and carbon use by food webs?
@scisally studied 12 streams in the Gaspé Peninsula to find out➡️doi.org/10.1139/cjfas-2023-0…

Many Canadians know about The Group Of Seven, but have you heard of the Indigenous Group of Seven?
Formally known as the Professional Native Indian Artists Incorporation, it was formed in 1973 with seven Indigenous artists to promote Indigenous art.
These are the artists

I'm so glad I got to participate as an instructor for the FREED Toronto Zoo event!
I loved running my workshop on benthic macroinvertebrates and it was very meaningful to be a part an event geared towards BIPOC students
We hosted our first event of the year from May 12th-14th at @thetorontozoo and had an amazing time with numerous workshops!

Hey #IAGLR23 presenters! Can you please share your pronouns when you introduce yourselves at the start of your talk? Even if you think folks already know them, it helps normalize the practice for trans/gnc folks when we do so to avoid misgendering when our work is discussed.

Yes! Spread more love to the underrated stream critters
On Valentine‘s Day we want to spread our love for #freshwater #macroinvertebrates 💖 with this awesome cartoon by @sepponet in cooperation with @fishmigration @DamRemovalEU
Happy International day of women and girls in science! I love seeing diversity in natural sciences and aquatic ecology and hearing other researchers' ideas about promoting inclusivity in this field

ALT A cartoon of a fuzzy round monster face showing 10 different emotions experienced during the process of debugging code. The progression goes from (1) “I got this” - looking determined and optimistic; (2) “Huh. Really thought that was it.” - looking a bit baffled; (3) “...” - looking up at the ceiling in thought; (4) “Fine. Restarting.” - looking a bit annoyed; (5) “OH WTF.” Looking very frazzled and frustrated; (6) “Zombie meltdown.” - looking like a full meltdown; (7) (blank) - sleeping; (8) “A NEW HOPE!” - a happy looking monster with a lightbulb above; (9) “insert awesome theme song” - looking determined and typing away; (10) “I love coding” - arms raised in victory with a big smile, with confetti falling.
Happy to announce that I finished my thesis - 2 years, 12 watersheds, and a few hundred samples later...
Glad I got to wrap this up at the end of this year and I'm excited to start off the new year on a high note!
Is it common knowledge that the log() function in R uses the natural log, not log base 10?!?

This week I finished all my Msc. labwork after analyzing my final sample for methylmercury! All it took was dozens of hours on the TTC, a whole jar of instant coffee, and one read-through of the Silmarillion. Excited to explore my 300+ data points 🥳🥳
