Twitter on my first account has serious complications. @TwitterSupport has not been helpful so started another account. Maybe one day we can hope for good customer service on this app.
Phenomenal self-report from this guy.
“Your speaking is a little bit boring & bland”
“Oh mb I’m used to only talking to white people”
😭
The sunset of Arc is incredibly disappointing and feels like the dark side of capitol’s influence on the software industry but the way people are talking about it you would think @browsercompany killed their firstborn
Arc is the reason I will never switch browsers ever again.
I used Chrome for years and years and years but, despite the high switching costs, Arc was cool enough for me to pull the trigger and try something new.
I loved, I recommended it to friends. It was buggy but I really really loved it. Just yesterday I was using Chrome with vertical tabs and reminiscing on how good Arc’s tab management was, how much I enjoyed using that browser.
Then, less than a year after I switched, they announced Dia and put Arc on life support. And now, it’s gone.
I have limited interest in AI browsers, but even if I did, I would never switch to Dia? Why would I use a browser that could be sunset at any point?
Chrome 4 life I guess. Fuck me for trying something new.
Amidst all this talk of Arc - I am more excited than ever for @ladybirdbrowser to hit general release and built up into their vision beyond the engine.
I don’t know what the development of it will look like but it’s clear that more open source browser engines is really valuable.
Can @browsercompany transition their business model into a primarily AI focused division of the Atlassian structure and open source the ADK that Arc & Dia is built on? People love Arc & ADK sounds like it solves a valuable need for a world that wants custom browsing experiences

Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes. 🦇

Safari on iOS makes it too easy for your beautiful website to get clipped under app chrome and look terrible.
Here's how to fix it:

There will come a time when how code is written won't matter. But for now, I still care that the code looks and reads right.
I'm not ready to let go :)
I still spend a LOT of time figuring out the right abstractions and interfaces (user and programming).
I recently built two components for shadcn/react. Each took weeks of UX research, experimentation, and iteration to get right.
AI hasn't accelerated this part yet, at least for me.
What it has done though, is help me fail faster. I can now go through many more failures before a component or code is ready.
I’m a big Mehdi fan but that is an objectively funny community note
I find it fascinating how many people on this site can dish it out but can’t take it.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Until recently, Mehdi preemptively disabled comments on many of his posts. He described this as a way to mute 'Islamophobes'.

We are making Markdown files work natively across Google Drive and Docs.
You can now preview .md files in Drive, open them in Docs, edit them, comment on them, and collaborate without converting the file into a Google Doc!

I’m thinking about banning Claude code at Shopify until they change their mind and read AGENTS.md and .agents/skills etc.
Insisting on only reading CLAUDE.md sometimes leads to split brain problems when different team members use different tools. Just unnecessary.
This is what happens when we don’t teach kids how to use vim

The secret to happiness as a software developer is to make software for people you care about.

it's a misconception that design eng means "exceptional at design and engineering."
it's someone who can do *unique* things because they straddle two disciplines.
things a designer + engineer duo could never do bc it takes two people in one to even see the opportunity.
The reason why my personal site has just one font size, monchrome colors, and looks “boring” is simply because I don’t consider myself a great designer.
By using as little variation as possible, I limit the amount of design mistakes I can make, and instead, I try to make the content itself (hopefully) interesting.
I know a few tricks to not make my work look like shit, but it’s far from the skills of a designer working at Linear for example.
To expand on that, from what I’ve seen, most “design engineers” excel at either design or code, not both. I never believed I can be exceptional at both, and I haven’t seen many people that are really, really great at both.
To me, trying to be great at both is like 2-in-1 shampoo conditioner, it never really works as well as two separate products designed specifically to do one thing well.
That’s why I made open source projects like Sonner and Vaul, that require some design sense, but these are far from sharing design kits for example.
And again, there are exceptions, but you shouldn’t expect all design engineers to design and build absolutely amazing things on their own.
I think most design engineers (including me) are just engineers that care about design, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are good at designing (and vice versa).
To me, the title design engineer is misleading in that it’s more of a description of where one’s interests overlap instead of actually indicating high skill in both disciplines.
