I adjusted my views recently on the vulnerability of our undersea cable network to a mass outage.
I've known about them for decades, worked over them for years but, in my mind, the amount of redundancy, plus the technological difficulties of creating a mass outage, meant whilst this threat was serious, and protecting against it important, it wasn't this critical.
Enough evidence has emerged in the last weeks and months now to change my mind📈
Some thoughts in here about what the threat is, what Russia uses to deliver it and what might happen if cables are cut. And, what can we do about it, what we *should* we do and, as ever, the battle for resources to 'make it so'.
Summary - protecting these things will be expensive, but nothing like the cost of a mass outage.
