Today: how it works. 📌How it works @soneium is an Ethereum Layer 2. An optimistic rollup built on Optimism’s OP Stack, inside the Superchain. You transact on L2. A sequencer orders those transactions, batches them, and posts compressed data plus state roots to Ethereum. Transactions are assumed valid unless challenged. Final security still sits on Ethereum. Why that matters: 🔹EVM-equivalent, so Ethereum wallets and Solidity mostly just work 🔹~2 second blocks 🔹Sub-cent to low-cent fees 🔹Gas is ETH 🔹Chain ID 1868 The Superchain part is the extra layer. Soneium is not a one-off custom chain. It shares the OP Stack, tooling, and a path toward interop with other OP chains. Caveat, because it should be said: like many early OP Stack chains, the sequencer is centralized and fault proofs have been permissioned. Users can still force transactions via Ethereum if needed.
