The ignorant & abusive comments here testify to the terrible destruction of humanities education in the UK, & the culture of unculturedness encouraged by the billionaire controllers of our digital public squares. So sad to see. Wishing us all chances to truly learn & connect 🙏
This young girl was raped by her own father and her mother’s lover. I cannot imagine the trauma this child has endured, being abused by the very people who should have protected her. Many children in Sri Lanka from all communities and socioeconomic groups suffer parental abuse and neglect today, leaving them vulnerable. The State needs to do more to protect them, provide support and ensure there is a dedicated helpline for children to seek help. @Dr_HariniA @anuradisanayake

Our Brazilian friends just served us some ‘cocado’ and it’s basically coconut rock (minus the food colouring, which is ofc an added health benefit)! Did we send it there through the Portuguese or get it from them?

This is great reporting from @observerlk and a horrifying story.
"Investigators probing alleged fraud in the Aswesuma welfare payments at the Norwood Divisional Secretariat believe the case could be the largest such fraud detected in Sri Lanka to date, with suspected losses approaching Rs.30 million.
"The investigation has also uncovered allegations that State employees obtained Aswesuma payments intended for low-income families by using the details of elderly persons who had died, according to investigators familiar with the inquiry.
"One investigator described the Norwood case to the Sunday Observer as the “most serious and largest” Aswesuma fraud uncovered so far."

Last night at @ChristiesInc New York’s Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction a record was set for the highest recorded price for a painting by a Sri Lankan born artist. ‘The Well(1957)’ by Ivan Peries is his most published work and it was exhibited at the 29th Venice Biennale in 1958. Sold for US$ 640,000 . It’s a masterpiece! #lka #sl #art #southasianart #ivanperies

This is amazing. The single most comprehensive register of investors, profiteers and legacies left by those that took part in Britains enslavement of African people. The level of research that must have gone into this is mind blowing.
