I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time. We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s. We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN. For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee. In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it. Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/nyreg…

Our culture these days is engineered to push people to override their intuition. The real coming conflict will be between those who can sense and trust their intuitions and those who don't.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.” Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death

8. They forgive the off days fast. The spiral after a bad day used to cost more than the bad day. They dropped it. Reset and go, no 3-day guilt tour.

Wait, after all these racist attacks on Abdul, it's Mike Rogers who has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood!? That's wild, man.
Mike Rogers acknowledges that in 2012 he was indeed willing to work with the Muslim Brotherhood but says that he was doing it in defense of Israel and its relationship to Egypt.

I think the fact that Marissa Mayer would voluntarily disclose this to a reporter is a pretty good demonstration of how deeply the culture of Silicon Valley has diverged from the rest of humanity

Fox News is putting Nicki Minaj up telling people to vote red. Let’s break that down. Can Nicki Minaj vote? No. She’s not a U.S. citizen. Can Nicki Minaj’s husband vote? No, he’s a registered sex offender. Can Nicki Minaj’s brother vote? No, he’s serving 25 years to life for child sexual assault. She seems like the perfect spokesperson for MAGA republicans.

Some random art gallery owner wanted to exhibit Hunter Biden's paintings and it was a months-long scandal. The below can't even pierce a single news cycle.

Obama scrambled the psyche of people who just couldn't handle America electing a black president
Barack Obama claimed he ran for president to unite us all. He did the opposite. And two decades later, he's still the divider-in-chief. Obama should shut up, get off the campaign trail, and leave us all the hell alone. I joined @pwafork @News24Aust 📺 youtube.com/watch?v=vDVoBRUu…

Yesterday Trump repeatedly called Abdul El-Sayed a "jihadist", told Nicki Minaj she had a "beautiful ass" and asked her to stand up so the crowd could admire it, and yet the dumbest people on Twitter are still pretending to be offended by a mention of the Cheesecake Factory.

the cheesecake factory discourse a back to the future reminder of what 2008-2016 was like on here. Obama makes funny joke revealing he's like the average American (fluent enough in gaudy chain restaurants to jest about a specific chain). GOPers decide it means he's not #oneofus. This goes on for days...

I love how everyone is pretending that this is somehow the fault of the program and not the company telling the program to do it.

JD Vance has undergone several updates. He has been a memoirist, a never-Trumper, a MAGA edgelord, and a loyal veep attack-dog. Now, we have Vance 6.0: the amnesiac heir. (1/4)

American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.
