Several Championship & League One clubs are monitoring Sutton boss Chris Agutter to add to their coaching staff. The talented head coach has taken Sutton from the foot of the National League to playoff chasers within one year, despite working with a bottom third budget.

ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING COACHES OUTSIDE THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE Chris Agutter’s rise through non-league deserves serious attention. 📈 At Worthing, he delivered their highest-ever National League South points total — 88 points, missing the title by ONE point. Sutton then paid compensation to get him. He arrived in October 2025 with the club in the National League relegation zone and guided them to safety with two games to spare. Fast-forward a year and Sutton are now just TWO points outside the play-offs, with Agutter openly targeting a return to the EFL. And he’s doing it at a club that does not have one of the biggest budgets in the division, making Sutton’s progress even more impressive. But it’s not just the results. His teams are aggressive, front-footed and possession-based, but he’s shown an ability to adapt tactically rather than being married to one system. Add his emphasis on pressing, player development and strong man-management and you can understand why his reputation continues to grow. From Hastings ➡️ Worthing ➡️ Sutton. At this rate, surely it’s only a matter of time before EFL clubs come calling.👏
