the reason allistic people do that has a lot to do with their own communication norms. it pains them to spell things out. they also cannot imagine what it’s like to have social blindness/deficits. they’re viewing you from the lens of allistic social/communication norms.

As an autistic person im so over ppl telling me “you know what you did” & then never explaining bc I WANT to be able to correct anything i do that’s upsetting someone or something i did wrong. So that leads me to believe its just some weird them thing that I can’t do anything abt

we need to release people from the delusion that you can control your “annoying” autism symptoms or really any of your autism symptoms
Saw someone on tiktok say "You're not being picked on because you're autistic you're just not controlling your Annoying Symptoms" and I can say this person hasn't been properly bullied bc they don't understand how ppl will annoy you just to see your reaction because They Know

if autism were a more behavioral or personality based disorder then yeah you could probably control the behaviors more. but autism is a neurodevelopmental disability. we speak, think, move, & act, the way we do because our brains developed atypically.

really my main argument is that even if you implement masking or you mimic behaviors you see in allistic people, there will always be an uncorking. there is always potential energy created by stifling your autism symptoms. eventually that tension breaks and it will be 10x worse!

it’s an interesting projection but unsurprising bc it requires assuming that everyone (including autistic people) are participating in social hierarchy. allistic people assume autistic people are usurping social hierarchy in a narcissistic power move way & not due to ignorance.
People will say autism is like narcissism when NT culture is literally full of manipulation, authority, ego, etc

we know that elizabeth holmes isn’t autistic because the people around her have come out & said that these are calculated acts that she puts on. she also appears to lack remorse for any of her actions or the deaths she caused. her husband is just like her if not worse.

i still need to watch that documentary but it bothered me seeing people paint elizabeth as some misunderstood autistic person. the reason she creeps people out with the uncanny valley is bc narcissists also fake facial expressions & nonverbal cues. just for different reasons.

incredible thread
Listen, the statements "autistic people are instantly disliked for being autistic" and "autistic people are sometimes assholes" can both be true but you really gotta internalize the first before the second. If you never make any effort to understand then the asshole is you.

Highly anecdotal and possibly bad take but most of the people I’ve known who used “people just don’t like me because I’m autistic!” actually very clearly had something else Going On

the reason i resent the “well some autistic people ARE assholes” thing is that it feeds into the implicit biases against us. that’s literally one of the assumptions allistic people make from our neutral/flat affects. or our directness.

i’m not even going to sign post and say “well some are!” because no fucking shit. but 90% of the time it’s people operating out of the implicit bias against us. it’s not us actually being rude or assholes.

there’s also a HUGE difference between “hey that comment/interaction made me feel bad” vs *ASSUMING* yeah that person IS an asshole in totality because i don’t like their ~vibe~
