I think the fact that so many of our signs of maturity and adulthood revolving around relationships is why a lot of people get into relationships to begin with even if the relationship isn’t healthy for them be because they want to be seen as grownups.
And you really notice it when you don’t date. In a previous friend group that I left (partially due to this behaviour) I saw how they infantilized the single girls in the group and then suddenly started treating them different when they were in relationships.
