i-dle이 최근 마무리한 Syncopation 월드 투어에서 슈화의 솔로 무대를 위해 특별히 만들어진 미발매곡, 「Red Redemption」.
슈화는 이렇게 말한다.
“이전에는 제대로 시도해보지 않았던 음악 스타일들을 한번 해보고 싶었어요.”
그 결과 탄생한 것은 어둡고 빠른 템포의 일렉트로닉 팝이었다. 이 곡은 팬들에게 지금까지 보지 못했던 슈화의 새로운 모습을 보여줬을 뿐만 아니라, 그녀의 보컬이 가진 한계에도 도전하게 했다.
하지만 처음 녹음했을 때 슈화는 자신의 보컬 표현에 대해 스스로 의문을 품게 됐다. 슈화는 이렇게 설명한다.
"제가 원래의 [데모곡]만큼 힘이 충분하지 않은 것 같다고 느꼈어요."
그러자 슈화의 팀과 가까운 친구들이 곧바로 그녀를 격려해주었다. 데모 녹음과 자신을 계속 비교하지 말라고 일깨워주었고, 지금 그대로의 슈화의 퍼포먼스도 충분히 괜찮으며, 오히려 그것이 아티스트로서 슈화가 어떤 사람인지를 정확히 담아내고 있다고 안심시켜주었다.
슈화는 그때를 떠올리며 말한다.
"그때 깨달았어요. '아, 맞다. 내가 꼭 데모와 똑같이 부를 필요는 없구나. 나에게도 나만의 [고유한 색깔]이 있으니까.'"
만약 「Red Redemption」을 통해 슈화가 자기 자신의 목소리를 믿는 법을 배웠다면, 이제 그와 같은 본능은 스포트라이트 밖에서 살아가는 그녀의 방식에도 영향을 미치고 있다.
슈화는 커리어에서는 앞으로 나아가고 있지만, 개인적인 삶에서는 의식적으로 한발 물러서는 것을 선택했다.
녹음실과 국제영화제의 스포트라이트에서 벗어나, 그녀는 이제 집에서 누리는 조용한 일상을 되찾는 것에 관심을 돌리고 있다.
지금의 슈화에게 '자기 자신으로 산다'는 것은 바로 그 주도권을 온전히 받아들이는 것을 의미한다. 그것이 혼자 솔로 무대에 오르는 일이든, 자신이 존경하는 배우에게 무언가를 배우는 일이든, 혹은 한때 텅 비어 있던 발코니를 자신만의 공간으로 바꾸는 일이든 말이다.

Enter "Red Redemption," an unreleased track created specifically for Shuhua's (@/yeh.shaa_) solo stage on i-dle's recently concluded Syncopation world tour.
"I wanted to try some musical styles that I hadn't really explored before," she says, which explains the resulting dark, high-tempo electronic pop landscape that not only showed fans a side of her they had not seen, but also tested her vocal boundaries.
The first recordings, however, left Shuhua second-guessing her vocal delivery; as she explains: "I felt like I didn't have quite as much power as the original [demo track]." Her team and close friends quickly stepped in with encouragement, reminding her to stop measuring herself against the demo recording and reassuring her that her performance was completely fine just as it was, capturing exactly who she is as an artiste. "That," she recalls, "was when I realised, 'Oh, right. I don't have to sing it exactly like the demo. I have my own [unique colour] too.""
If "Red Redemption" taught Shuhua to trust her own voice, the same instinct now shapes the way she lives outside the spotlight. While Shuhua has taken steps forward in her career, she has deliberately chosen to step back on the personal front.
Away from the recording studios and international film festival spotlights, she has turned her focus towards reclaiming the quiet space of her home life. For now, being herself means embracing that very control—whether it means taking on a solo stage, learning from an actress she admires or transforming a balcony that once sat empty.
As Shuhua puts it so simply: "That, to me, is freedom."
