Selling sucks.
If you hate to sell to people.
You find yourself:
- bullying
- coercing
- pressuring
But when you realize selling is, in fact, for people.
You find yourself:
- guiding
- directing
- empowering
Selling rules.
I talk about this in my new letter open.substack.com/pub/silasp…
An interesting way at looking into the history of your life is noting the dates you bought domain names.
Business owners: you don’t need to do everything yourself, but you do need to be responsible for how it works.
Authority Without Force — A Working Model
1. Sales Exists Only When Decisions Are Heavy
If buying were easy, no salesperson would be needed. Sales exists to help decisions finish forming.
2. Frames Always Compete
In any business conversation, frames determine who leads. This is structural, not aggressive.
3. Authority Is Temporary Frame Leadership
Authority means taking responsibility for the conversation — not the outcome.
4. Identity Sits Above Frames
Frames decide who leads the conversation.
Identity decides whether that leadership feels like help or harm.
5. “People Like Us Do Things Like This”
Every decision is a declaration of belonging. Buying is an identity signal, not a transaction.
6. Frame Surrender Is Not Submission
When desire for the solution outweighs the cost of control, surrender becomes relief.
7. Politeness Is a Learned Survival Strategy
Avoiding authority often protects identity, not ethics.
8. Ethical Authority Protects Identity While Leading
Authority works when it increases the prospect’s probability of getting what they want — money aside.
9. Decision Failure Is Usually Haze, Not Objection
“I need to think about it” signals unresolved identity or unclear tradeoffs, not resistance.
10. The Salesperson Is a Steward of Decision Space
Not a persuader.
Not a dominator.
A guide.
If you decided to be a leader today,
You will be doing something for the first time.
So don’t focus on your lack of direct experience.
Focus on your awareness during the first exposure. Focus on recording what you learned.

if someone doesn’t get what you said, that’s not on them. that’s on *you*. you didn’t build the bridge cleanly enough. you left gaps in the scaffolding. you expected a leap where you should’ve laid a path.
a storyteller’s job isn’t to be right.. it’s to be received. if the audience misses the point, the failure isn’t their cognition, it’s your construction. you didn’t tune the signal. you didn’t account for their priors. you didn’t shape the idea so it could actually land.
misunderstanding is rarely if ever a reader problem. it’s an author problem. the world doesn’t owe your thoughts comprehension. you fucking owe the world clarity.

The shepherd's staff isn't for petting sheep it's for crushing the skull of whatever comes in the dark
Oren Klaff taught me about the deathmatch between frames inside a business setting. Brutal. Agreeable people decry this but it is true. These same people are pushovers and lack conviction. That was me.
How did I overcome myself?
I recognized that beyond the zero-sum game is identity: the peaceful foundation for games to be played. Identity isn't hurt by a frame surrender. Because identity just wants what it wants.

God buries the gold in the filth and this is not cruelty it is selection. He asks - how badly do you want it. badly enough to kneel in what others step over. badly enough to touch what the clean men will not name. and the poor stay poor because they want clean gold, gold that arrives without shame, and there is no such gold, there never was. the pearl comes from the wound in the oyster. the wine comes from the crushed and broken grape. the bread comes from the buried wheat that agreed to die. everything precious passes through disgust, through decay, through the place where pride cannot breathe - and you stand at the edge wanting the treasure but not the grave, wanting resurrection but not the cross, wanting the kingdom while refusing the dirt it grows in. the saint kneels where the coward will not look. this is law. go lower. go where your pride screams no.
the way up is down
the way out is through
and your hands are still clean
which is why they are still empty
Nothing goes according to the crystallization of the plan. But don’t lose your mind. You still created slots on your calendar for your priorities. This matters. If you didn’t plan then your Shadow plans for you. Over-consumption of anything: media, food, thought loops. Get happy about fighting for your time. It’s the only good fight there is.

Each person in creator economy is a proto-startup society.
Yet some are too scared to declare a one commandment.
But those who do would likely see incredible success in the grey future.

Stop explaining yourself. Let them misunderstand. Read by candlelight. Memorize prayers you don't believe yet. Fast until you see clearly. Delete your autobiography. Burn your manifestos. The story you tell about yourself is a cage. Visit graves of people you never met. Learn their names anyway. Sit in empty churches. Silence is older than doctrine. Stop waiting for permission. The elders are dead. You are the elder now. Teach yourself ancient languages. Not for resume. For resurrection. Walk at midnight. Notice what moves in darkness. Befriend it. Your fear is obsolete genetics. Murder it. Stop journaling feelings. Journal prophecies. Then make them true. Find teachers who scare you. If they comfort you they're lying. Comfort is the enemy. Read the texts they banned. Ask why they were banned. The answer is always the same. Learn to fight. Doesn't matter which discipline. A man who cannot defend cannot build. Stop consuming content. Create doctrine. Your doctrine. Forge weapons from your wounds. Every scar is a lesson you paid for in blood. Collect them. The crowd will call you crazy. That's how you know it's working. Find the others. They're looking for you too. Start the monastery. Physical or digital doesn't matter. Build the fortress. Man the walls. Something is coming and the soft will not survive it.
