Our #Cyprus team hit a major milestone over the weekend in combating illegal bird poaching by removing our 1000th limestick of this autumn camp! We’ve rescued >900 live birds & ensured the arrest of 35 poachers so far. Every trap removed saves thousands more migratory birds!

🇬🇪Georgia’s Constitutional Court is deciding whether to ban every party that won a seat against Georgian Dream in 2024. Two years of continuous nightly protest, 91 political prisoners and a frozen EU path lead to this. We need to look at Georgia now!

This is what’s left of Kyiv’s major power plants after Russian attacks. Monitoring channels are warning of a possible large-scale Russian attack on our energy infrastructure in the coming days. Kyiv and several other regions could be at risk of drone and missile strikes. Again.
Well, apparently all three of Kyiv’s major power plants have stopped generating electricity after Russian attacks. Two of them are on the left bank, where I live. Looks like I should get used to living without electricity. Buuuut… on the bright side, now that the Russians have bombed our power plants out of operation, maybe they’ll finally stop sending ballistic missiles and drones to this area? Or am I being too optimistic? 😁

🐺 OUTRAGE AS FINLAND PROPOSES KILLING ANOTHER 109 WOLVES THIS WINTER! Finland is facing serious conservation concerns after proposing the hunting of up to 109 wolves across 18 designated areas between December 2026 and February 2027. Despite wolves remaining classified as CRITICALLY ENDANGERED in Finland, authorities are pushing ahead with plans for another controversial hunting season. Finland’s wolf population was estimated at just 430 animals in March 2026, yet the proposed quota could see another 109 wolves killed. This follows the controversial January 2026 hunting season, during which more than 80 wolves were reportedly killed. Conservationists fear that further hunting could undermine years of recovery efforts, disrupt established wolf packs and threaten the genetic diversity of an already vulnerable population. Wolves are apex predators that play an important ecological role, helping regulate prey populations and maintain healthy ecosystems. How can a species still classified as critically endangered nationally be subjected to another large-scale hunt? The proposal has raised urgent questions about whether Finland is prioritising hunting interests over the long-term protection of its wolves. 🐺 WOLVES NEED PROTECTION, NOT PERSECUTION. Montana FWP reported total wolf mortality as 42 on 11/4/26. A female wolf was killed. One female in region 4 and a male in region 2. It is wrong to get pleasure out of killing.

Russians are using “shahed” drones and missiles to hit even the energy equipment that our nuclear power plants depend on. Every power plant in Ukraine has been damaged in one way or another by Russian attacks. We need transformers, and power cables, modern electrical equipment, and different generators – both diesel and gas. We know that companies in Spain and Latin America can help with this. We are interested in transformers from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia, power cables from Chile, and electrical equipment, cables, and generators from Spain. We need equipment that works with our power grid. And we need it fast. So please, help us work directly with your companies and get these supplies to Ukraine as quickly as possible. So let’s make it happen. From an address at the 30th Ibero-American Summit. (3/3)

Creating fake, AI-generated images of Auschwitz and other camps is a dangerous act of distortion. Presenting them as authentic photographs falsifies history and disrespects the memory of the victims. Social platforms, especially Facebook, bear responsibility for enabling and amplifying their spread. These examples come from the Facebook page “Lost in Auschwitz.” A “then and now” comparison promises a connection between historical documentation and the authentic site today. Here, both sides are AI-generated fakes. Placed side by side, the two fabrications appear to validate each other: the supposed present makes the invented past look credible, while the supposed past gives the invented present historical meaning. Photography carries an expectation that someone stood in a real place and recorded what was there. This trust is fundamental to the use of photographs as historical sources. Authentic photographs of Auschwitz are evidence. Photographs taken at the Memorial today also document a real place whose surviving buildings and ruins bear witness to the crime. AI-generated images exploit this trust. They imitate the visual language of documentary photography without providing its connection to reality. Labels such as “THEN 1944” and “NOW 2025” reinforce the false impression that viewers are looking at photographic records. Authentic photographs, documents, testimonies, objects and the preserved site allow us to study the history of Auschwitz and remember its victims. Replacing them with plausible-looking inventions erodes the distinction between evidence and fiction. We believe that platforms have a responsibility to intervene when they are used to spread such falsified content. Allowing AI-generated fakes of Auschwitz to circulate degrades the dignity of the victims, endangers public understanding of history, and, in fact, supports the distortion of history. The history of Auschwitz and the Memorial that preserves all its remains must not be replaced with AI-generated fiction. Memory and historical truth deserve much stronger protection.

Water, but no electricity or heating. Light, but no water or heating. The luckiest may get two out of three, but usually without heating. Depending on district, one may get nothing at all. It's 6°C during the day & 1°C at night. Welcome to the daily lottery of life in Kyiv.

That morning, the morning of Guy Fawkes night, the frost was as hard as iron and as white as swan feathers, but Old Fox had a wonderful breakfast with the Newcomer by his wagon - coffee so strong it made their whiskers curl and scrambled eggs and salty fried potatoes. They talked of the tides of the world and they talked of the village and of the coming firework display, and Old Fox talked of his friends, most particularly of the Doctor and of the Broker and of Wolf. The Newcomer nodded & listened very intently, as he always did to Old Fox, and as he warmed his paws by the fire, he saw flickering images form in the flames: he saw the Doctor cradling a dying friend in the trenches of Passchendaele as the shelling rose around them, first like the heavy rumbling of thunder, then a whistling, screaming, tearing flight of white stars, as beautiful as they were terrible, he saw the Broker holding his hands over his ears, rocking to and fro and to and fro, shaking and shivering, covered in the same thick Flanders mud, and he saw Wolf loping down the middle of a London street, not knowing where he was, not knowing where to go, flinching and whimpering at the raging noise of the traffic, at the horns and the angry shouting of an omnibus driver. So it came about that at 5 o'clock exactly that evening, a good two hours before the display, Wolf and Old Fox knocked on the Doctor's door and were led through to the garden by his Housekeeper. "Newcomer's all set up," she said, "he's right down by the cherry trees." They padded through the checkerboard hall and the baize door and the kitchen to the long oblong lawn, where chairs of all different sizes, each with its own blanket, were set out  in a row. The Broker was there and the Doctor, and the Housekeeper brought out a tray of ginger wine and some bars of milk chocolate, to keep out the cold. Suddenly, the Newcomer appeared in front of them, trailing ice and fir and smoke around him. "For your delight," he said, "a night show of fair fire flowers as quiet as a summer breeze." And he stamped a paw and whispered something to the keen air in a language unuttered below the snow-lands of the north. Everyone sat down in the striped deck chairs and the papier-mâchè wobblers and the sturdy Glastonbury oak thrones, and wrapped themselves in blankets and shawls, and, as hushed as though in a minster in the holiest of holidays, watched one of the most beautiful and stirring exhibitions they had ever seen, a symphony of silent fireworks glittering and blooming in the moth-haunted, velvet-black November night. There were glittering chaplets of roses and feathery Egyptian stars and fierce bronze firebirds and mumerations of golden starlings and blue-green Yokohama fountains and delicate white flowers which fell like drifting swan down, like the first snows of Christmastide. Afterwards, the Doctor drove Wolf and the Broker to a little pub in Abbotsbury for a treat, and they sat in the sweet peace of the snug, by the great medieval fireplace, and gently laughed and drank juniper ale and talked of art and books and the future, and let the noisy fearful bombast of their pasts quieten and recede for a long while, as the tide pulls away on a beach in the depths of winter.

There was great excitement in the village. The Newcomer had arrived overnight in his fine wagon, and had set up camp by the holly bush on the Green. There was a thin feather of blue smoke from his fire, and a lovely drift of roasted coffee and sugar and fried potatoes on the cold morning air. At the same time, a series of brightly painted posters had appeared on the blacksmith's great oak doors and the post office notice board and the Doctor's windows and the beech tree by the school. They read as follows: On this Fifth Night of November, A Rare Display of Fireflowers and Firesparks By a Master Conjurer of the North & a Fierce & Grand Bonefire, best in Dorset, On the Green at 7 o'clock.
