HMS Tamar and HMS Spey have completed 10-day exercise Bersama Lima 2026, alongside forces from Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. Participants included 🇸🇬RSS Intrepid, 🇦🇺HMAS Stalwart and 🇲🇾KD Lekir, together with submarines and aircraft conducting ASW, air defence, maritime security operations and naval gunfire support drills. HMS Tamar also embarked a RNZN boarding team to practise intercepting vessels suspected of illegal fishing and drug smuggling. The exercise demonstrated the endurance of the Five Power Defence Arrangements established more than 50 years ago. HMS Spey will continue patrols and diplomatic engagements in Southeast Asia, while HMS Tamar heads towards Australia and New Zealand via Pacific island nations for further maritime security operations.

This week RAF Typhoons have flown alongside French Rafale jets - the first time the UK has taken part in a French nuclear air exercise. It's a landmark step in UK-France defence co-operation, and a clear signal that we stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies on European security and credible deterrence.

The Houthi attacks on our ally Saudi Arabia are dangerous for the region. Today @wesstreeting approved further UK military support for Saudi Arabia. RAF Typhoons will fly defensive air missions to protect Saudi airspace from drones and missiles. This builds on the air defence and air-to-air refueling support we have already provided. I’ve been working to secure two Defence Technical Excellence Colleges for Scotland since March - and now working with the Scottish Government we’ll have one based in the East and one based in the West of Scotland.
Scotland wins when governments work together. Let’s make cooperation quicker and routine. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👇 The two new Defence Technical Excellence Colleges will bring skills and employment opportunities to young people in Scotland’s defence sector.

Ukraine’s 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade says it evacuated a wounded soldier from a front line position using a heavy hexacopter drone in a first of its kind operation. According to the brigade, a soldier from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade was injured at a position that could not be reached by conventional evacuation means due to heavy enemy drone activity and mines. Specialists from the 92nd Brigade’s unmanned ground systems company used a heavy hexacopter made by Ukrainian company Gurzuf Defence to rescue the injured soldier. The brigade says the soldier survived and is now receiving treatment. It credited the 92nd, 30th and 14th Separate Mechanized Brigades, the 10th Army Corps and Gurzuf Defence.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting @RFAMountsBay.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary is essential to everything the @RoyalNavy does. Its people sustain our ships, move equipment, support operations and enable the Fleet to remain at sea. 1/3

Lots to discuss in Washington DC about how we are working together to strengthen defence and deterrence around the world. Look forward to talking with @SecWar Pete Hegseth about our defence partnership - the closest of any two nations - that helps to make us all safer.

Preparedness and resilience are at the heart of Exercise Cambrian Patrol, but they aren’t just military responsibilities. Government, industry, academia, communities and citizens all have a part to play in making sure we’re ready for the challenges ahead.

Andrew Scott delivers this speech too slowly; I know some viewers will hate the way he breaks up the verse. AND YET even in spite of that I think this is the best delivery of this soliloquy I’ve ever seen. He makes it sound like it’s not a portentous speech everyone already knows but a morally serious real-time deliberation, by a highly intelligent person in extreme pain, considering what it would mean to end his own life.

As DG MI5 said, the UK has entered a new era of national security. We are stepping up our response, backing our police and security services with powers to tackle new threats. My thanks to the men and women of MI5 – they work quietly, serve tirelessly, and help keep us safe.

SACEUR set out his Theory of Victory today. As he told the Warsaw Security Forum, NATO is a defensive alliance, constructed to preserve peace. The UK will continue to play its part in strengthening our collective defence and ensuring NATO is more ready today and every day after.
'Our Alliance exists to preserve peace. But let there be no doubt: should war come, we will block, blunt any attack And then - if it does not cease - we will break the forces conducting aggression against us' SACEUR set out his Theory of Victory at the @WarsawForum today 👇

Putin’s drone campaign in Ukraine is actively targeting something far more insidious than just energy grids or military bases: the nation's culture, history, and future. Over the summer months alone, Russian strikes incinerated an estimated 13 million books. In Kharkiv, a targeted drone strike on a major publishing warehouse turned hundreds of thousands of student textbooks to ash just as children were preparing to return to school. This is a calculated assault to erase Ukrainian identity and deny a generation their right to learn.

We cannot let these attacks wipe out Ukraine's educational resources. That is why The Sunday Times is incredibly proud to partner with @Book_Aid for the our Get Ukraine Reading appeal. They are working on the ground to get brand-new books back into the hands of students and restock the libraries whose shelves were destroyed. Every £2 donated sends another brand-new book to a Ukrainian child or library. Please consider supporting the appeal and sharing this thread to help us rebuild what has been lost: bookaid.org/support-us/the-s…

I would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response to the major incident in Gloucestershire this morning and their reassurance that they believe the incident is contained. Whilst investigations are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further.
