Morning sunshines! ☀️ Woke up to see my feed full of negativity/ slating other SLTs. Can we start a thread where we all say something great about another therapist/ service/company? I’m here to learn from and support other SLTs. Cheering for each other is so important. LET’S GO🎉

Ten years ago today I graduated. A whole decade of being SJB SLT. A pipe dream thought up while living in Melbourne. Proud of what I’ve achieved so far. Fiercely supportive of our profession and expecting the same from those around me. The best is yet to come.

Shared to CAMHS SLTs @RCSLTLearn “Focus on my similarities, what makes me human, not just my difference, disorder, deficit-We must get the support right, think about sensory needs & communication preferences, create that bridge ➡️relational support, connection.” @AQuinnUnbroken
One of the key takeaways from our National Autism Trainer Programme conference yesterday was that when working with autistic people, we must see fellow humans instead of problem behaviours. It's about learning, being curious and collaborating on that deep level. #NATPMentalHealth

We take great pride in our collaboration with the @LittleTroopers_ Therapy Programme, an initiative dedicated to enhancing the mental health and overall well-being of children whose parents serve in the British Armed Forces. 🇬🇧

Thanks to @thetimes for bringing attention to the 1.9 million children currently struggling with talking and understanding words. More must be done to ensure these children receive the support they need. Read their article featuring @Jane_Harris77 here👉 ow.ly/e2Kp50Qp4xP

Helllllp! Can anyone recommend training I can go on re: GLP? Want to learn more about the process and also how to give safe helpful advice as I’m often wondering if the children I meet are learning language in this way. TIA! #gestalt #language #training

Discharging my caseload who have allowed me the opportunity to practice what I’ve been learning this year. Beyond grateful to them for ‘letting me in’. Saying goodbye as a therapist feels bittersweet to me. I’m so proud, and will miss them enormously!

How else would you phrase trial and error? I’m trying ‘trial and reflect’ So that young people and parents don’t think they’ve done something wrong- some therapy ideas work, others don’t, it’s not an error it’s just less helpful than we’d like #trial #reflect #childled

I really do believe we can adapt assessments, harness children’s strengths and understand the variations in their thinking style in a compassionate way. We don’t need to traumatise them to do this. Pack it in!

Yes Emily! At the risk of sounding like I’ve gone in to full Gandhi mode we really can ‘Be the change’ 🙌🏼

I am buzzing like an old fridge. Child was so proud telling me he’s slept three consecutive full nights in his own room and how he’s using his new ‘tactics’ during his football games. His face lit up. He’s proud of himself. He’s smashing it. Adapted practice = big difference!

Reasonable adjustments for Autism assessments- is this not the law? Head in hands moment ‘But we’re assessing needs so we have to see the difficulties’ I totally disagree with the rationale and think it’s a way of justifying distress that’s avoidable …
