A treat over Newport this morning! The Italian Air Force, Frecce Tricolori, gave a few colorful passes over Fort Adams, The Newport Bridge, and The Naval College. The stop in Newport is to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Giovanni de Verrazzano's landing here in 1524. @wpri12

Emergency Announcement:
Due to the finding of a critical failure of some original 1960's bridge components, we will close the westbound side of the Washington Bridge.
Initially, all the westbound lanes will be closed and traffic diverted to alternate routes. In the next two to three weeks, we’ll move traffic to two lanes on the eastbound side at which time permanent repairs will begin on the westbound side. This will require a closure of two lanes on I-195 East in the area of Exit 1A (India Street) starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, December 12.
Depending on the severity of what is found from the initial work, the repair could take three months or more.
Beginning immediately and during the time that it takes to make the repairs and reopen the westbound side, travelers are asked to take the marked detour routes.

This is the strongest tornado to hit Rhode Island since August 7, 1986 when a tornado touched down in Cranston and moved into Providence.

The Scituate Director of Public Works said the damage from this tornado rivaled the damage from the Blizzard of '78. Wow. This was an EF-2 tornado with winds of 115mph.
Temporary Flight Restriction in the area of the large #Exeter brush fire. No drone flying as firefighting helicopters will be used to extinguish the fire.
