you couldn’t have waterboarded this out of me
why aren’t we talking about the free labor these companies are getting because we have to walk around and find items ourselves? has to be in the TRILLIONS
I did a whole research project on this in grad school. Companies reap over $300 BILLION a year in free labor from customers using self-checkouts. If they’re not going to pay customers, they can shave some price.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
No public data supports the $300B free labor claim from self-checkouts. BLS data put total wages for ~3.2M US cashiers at roughly $100B yearly. Self-checkout has replaced only a portion of those jobs.

Turns out GPT-5.6 Sol is actually SoTA on ARC-AGI-3.
Just took two setting changes. You just have to allow it to reason and work over multiple context windows with the help of our canonical compaction implementation.

if ruud comes back and wins he’ll be the first player in history to win 4-1 in a 5 setter
this is the most ambitious, challenging and rewarding thing we are doing right now and if robotics is exciting to you, you should come join us. the team is incredible.
OpenAI Robotics is hiring, looking for exceptional full-stack hardware, ops, systems, and ML engineers to help us program and manufacture robots that are useful for society.
AI should be able to help people in the physical world. In the short term, we are focused on robots to support skilled workers to build our future infrastructure; in the long term, we imagine everyone having a personal robot doing anything they need.
Our world simulation research program, led by Aditya Ramesh (@model_mechanic), has evolved over the past year into OpenAI Robotics. Progress is rapid, and based on a foundation of co-design between robotics hardware and ML research.
If you love working hands-on across the robotics stack and want to build the future, please consider joining us. Send an email with your background and evidence of exceptional accomplishment to: [email protected]
robot intelligence is going to be interesting in a world that is increasingly inference flops pilled because you have a time constraint that naturally sets a hard limit on scaling on that axis
