#whaspoilers anon i've let this sit in my inbox for so longggg because i wanted to answer this properly. the main thing that gets me: qifrey is by literary definition a "monster" and presented this way in the story. 🧵qifrey and frankenstein's monster are:

i guess my old man opinion is you can actually be a better writer by being kinder to people. craft is a learned skill. but so is being nicer, which arguably in this political climate is a lot harder to do.

this is why i don't think qifrey was taken by the brimhats against his will, he was originally recruited to be a brimhat, and then he was abused/experimented on. based on how we've seen the brimhats operate with kids, i just have no reason to believe otherwise right now.

#whaspoilers i think luluci's master offered her to that client and i think rili's master touching his hair like that was alluding to sexual abuse. qifrey's past + losing his bodily autonomy, and how the brimhats use children to recruit more children, all seem intentional to me.

how olly sticks by him, stuck in a loop of almost making it through to him..... you can tell how much they crave it by the home they live in and the students they welcome inside it. it makes me think about the families in wha and the ways they've had to adapt.

y'know i'm 100% sure arkco is endgame but this newest chapter convinced me there's more to orufrey too. qifrey's arc reads very queer to me - the world he lives in stripped him of his autonomy, his ability to be truly himself, experience unrepressed romantic and familial love.
