Bobby Benton is a trainer of world champions (O'Shaquie Foster, Regis Prograis). Yet despite success, he toils in relative anonymity in the sport. Although quiet and unassuming, he's not one to be underestimated.
My column (link in bio):
For those interested, my recent article on Bobby Benton, O’Shaquie Foster’s trainer, is my pinned tweet.
Terrific performance by O’Shaquie Foster. After his performance against Fulton, I thought that fighter is one of the best in the sport, and he has maintained that level. Wonderful fight. I hope Bobby Benton gets his flowers too. Terrific trainer.
Foster doesn’t have the knockouts but he definitely has that respectable pop that gives opponents pause.
Over time, Navarrete has become much better at shortening and straightening his shots when the situation calls for it. Landing a fair number of jabs and short right hands.
That’s the thing about this matchup. Navarrete can land some punch from 20 feet away, and all the sudden things change.
Puello got fortunate against Martin and Russell. When you keep fighting in coin flips, sometimes it’s heads, sometimes it’s tails. Tonight was predictable. As was his “win” over Sandor Martin.
Exactly the tough, cagey fight I expected with Dalton Smith nicking a decision at home. That’s a fight that Puello has won before, but it’s a different proposition on the road. Always had an issue winning rounds decisively. Remains an issue for him.
