Jordan can count on Canada in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on a Greek Orthodox funeral in Karak. I spoke with Foreign Minister @AymanHsafadi to reiterate our solidarity with the Jordanian people and our determination to confront the hatred and extremism that fuel such violence. Jordan has long been an important voice for peace and stability in the Middle East. At a time of profound challenges across the region, our close cooperation remains essential, and we will stay in direct contact in the weeks ahead.

Today, an act of terrorism violated the sanctity of a funeral at a church in the Jordanian city of Karak. Families had gathered to mourn; instead, they became the targets of a horrific attack. Canada condemns this violence in the strongest terms. My deepest condolences to the members of the Greek Orthodox Church and to those grieving this loss, and I wish the injured a full recovery. I have been in contact with my counterpart, Foreign Minister @AymanHsafadi, to express Canada’s solidarity with the Jordanian people. We will remain in close contact as we stand together in defence of religious freedom, human dignity and the fundamental right to worship in peace.
