This is one of the best articles on severe ME I’ve ever seen coming out of the UK. Thanks to @KatieFalkingham for her insightful and well-researched coverage.

Excited to share our study by @keylas3 et al. on pathological autoantibodies in people with Long COVID. We asked whether IgG in patients with Long COVID bind to human tissues/antigens and cause pathologies when transferred into mice. With @PutrinoLab doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2026.…

I have NEVER – EVER – had to encourage someone with ME to do more. I always – ALWAYS – have to persuade them to do LESS. To stop a favourite activity. To adjust a task to lessen the effort.

Would like to note that many of us who are virologists, microbiologists m, immunologists and ID specialists have had this fear since the beginning of just given the nature of corona viruses Personally, imo there is enough evidence to state it is. Why do I believe that?
“A growing number of scientists believe the SARS-CoV-2 virus may be subtly altering our immune systems. If correct, their hypothesis will change how we understand everything from RSV to shingles to sepsis.” “It’s certainly impacting our immune health & probably.. overall health”

A fascinating new study by Vishnu Shankar et al. @stanfordimmuno shows that oxidative stress is a shared characteristic of ME/CFS and Long COVID in lymphocytes due to inability to clear reactive oxygen species. This happens in sex-specific manner. (1/) pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1073/pna…

Wanted to put forward a thread about #PEM since there have been some new developments and also because I just need to get some of this out of my head and work through it. Folks with infection- and exposure-associated chronic illnesses (IACIs) like #LongCOVID, #MECFS, 1/

academic.oup.com/eurheartj/a… Hopefully, "a game changer" in unexplained syncope workup has been born. Merging cardiovascular autonomic testing including 24-hour blood pressure monitoring with prolonged ECG monitoring using implantable devices will create a new standard.

PEM has been shown to be associated with myopathy in patients where biopsies showed muscle necrosis and inflammation compared to controls. The idea that there's no neurological harm in triggering PEM is deeply flawed.

Beyond "immunity debt". In what ways could SARS-CoV-2 be involved in surges of other infectious diseases like RSV, tuberculosis, fungal infections, Mycoplasma, etc.? Here is a list of additional hypotheses, all increasingly supported in the scientific literature. 🧵

Replying to @dysclinic
@dysclinic these type of papers, together with the silly comments from Garner, that LongCOVID happens because of “A set of primitive alarm signals set off in your brain”, show ignorance and these individuals & their co-authors should be pointed out as promoting pseudoscience.
