Excellent discussion today with @vpetrova_mfa. Black Sea security and connectivity remain priorities.
Also, we have to advance efficiently towards establishing the Black Sea Maritime Security Hub. Soon we will mark 20 years as EU members, with much more to build. 🇷🇴🇧🇬

I had an important meeting today with Prime Minister @RumenRadevPM and @SecGenNATO Mark Rutte to strengthen our defences in the Black Sea. With our @NATO Allies, we have a commitment to defend every inch of our territory, including our waters and airspace.
The situation in the Black Sea is serious. Commercial ships are being attacked and sunk. Seafarers killed, injured, and missing, very close to the shores of Romania and Bulgaria. This is unacceptable and it has to stop.
Lives, global trade, and critical infrastructure are at stake. We stand together for a safe and open Black Sea, for Romania, Bulgaria, Europe, and the whole world.

I had a very good phone call with President Iliana Iotova of Bulgaria regarding the recent drone attack on commercial ships in the Black Sea off the Bulgarian coast, as well as the other incidents that affected shipping and infrastructure in Romanian waters.
These drone attacks are direct consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and endanger not only shipping in our region but also vital agricultural supplies to other continents.
We agreed that Romania and Bulgaria will work closely together to push for stronger counter-drone measures within the EU and NATO in order to ensure safe commercial shipping in the Black Sea.

Romania strongly condemns the latest missile and drone attacks conducted by the armed forces of the Russian Federation against civilians in the city of Kramatorsk today.
The killing of dozens of innocent civilians, including children, and the senseless destruction caused are barbaric actions, deeply distressing and utterly unjustifiable.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and all those affected by this horrendous attack.
Romania stands firmly in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and stresses, once more, that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected. Collectively we will do more to help Ukraine defend itself against aggression.
Romania also reaffirms its commitment to the principles of international law, and reiterates its support for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Romania will continue to stand by Ukraine’s side for as long as it takes.
Attacks against civilians and civilian facilities or infrastructures are war crimes. All those responsible will be held accountable. @andrii_sybiha

🇷🇴🇧🇬🇭🇷🇬🇷 Four countries, one strategic space.
From the Black Sea to the Aegean and Adriatic, our connectivity is also our resilience.
Today in New York, we discussed how to turn shared geography into concrete action: stronger transport links, secure energy routes and infrastructure fit for the challenges ahead.
We also exchanged on EU enlargement and the importance of merit based assessment of candidate countries.
I emphasised the role of regional synergy for an effective EU foreign and security policy.

Today, we kicked off the first #CarpathianIntegrationInitiative Summit, at the invitation of President @ZelenskyyUa.
I am delighted to take part in this important event, which promotes regional integration, good-neighborly relations, cohesion and coordination, in full complementarity with existing regional mechanisms.
Romania is home to half of the Carpathian mountain chain, and our involvement is therefore significant. The Carpathian countries need to work better together to build roads and border crossings, strengthen energy connections, promote tourism and economic and cultural exchanges, protect nature, and attract investment.
I have argued for an integrated approach to investments and projects that reach local communities. Romania also places emphasis on advanced information technologies, security, civil protection, preparedness for natural disasters and other crises, and our overall resilience.
Romania is a firm supporter of the European path, and this format can also serve as an additional instrument for the European integration of candidate countries.
Last but not least, this format can harness the region’s linguistic and cultural richness by making the protection of national minorities’ rights a priority.

A good meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany, @bundeskanzler, in Rovaniemi, on the margins of the European Arctic Summit. Our discussion reconfirmed the solid partnership between Romania and Germany.
On security, I stressed the need to reinforce NATO's Eastern Flank against Russian threats, including drone incursions into allied airspace, and we discussed the potential for Romanian–German defence industrial cooperation.
We addressed the future Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU, where Romania supports an ambitious budget with a robust cohesion policy and adequate funding for agriculture.
I underlined that the European path of the Republic of Moldova remains a priority for Romania and its progress deserves firm support, including the timely opening of all negotiating clusters.

Romania’s Foreign Minister @oana_toiu with a blunt assessment of Europe’s support for Ukraine:
“I want to be very honest here in saying we do not collectively do enough to be able to support their air defense. And this is something that is very obvious, not just by the increase in the attacks of Russian drones, but also by the weaker air defense that is currently in place.”

Today, the Romanian Air Forces shot down a drone that violated our airspace, the second successful interception after the one in Estonia, performed also by our Air Forces. Romania and its @NATO Allies are clearly strengthening their knowledge, readiness, and their responses to these security threats.

🇷🇴 Security in the #BlackSea is our top priority. Romania, alongside Türkiye🇹🇷 and Bulgaria🇧🇬, officially expands the MCM Black Sea Task Group mission.
Originally MCM Black Sea (Mine Countermeasures Black Sea Task Group) was a joint naval initiative launched by Bulgaria, Romania, and Türkiye to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.
Moving beyond mine countermeasures to also protect critical infrastructure, MCM Black Sea will contribute to regional energy security and to protecting strategic energy projects.
This will bring concrete and lasting economic returns to our defence and security investments.
We will continue to work in this and other relevant formats to ensure the economic prospects of the Black Sea.
