The Labour Party is 120 years old today, I thought I’d do a thread of some of its greatest achievements for which we can all be proud

Yes, a functioning brain
Sorry, it is absolutely absurd for Momentum to be actively championing the leadership of a non-SCG leader who has made zero overtures to the left, appointed zero socialists to cabinet and largely retained the Starmerite machinery. Am I missing something?

No consensus was built by royal commission. Attlee and Thatcher left legacies because they implemented reform and let the results justify themselves
The left should look at this stuff in the same way that Thatcher reflected on Blair: “We forced our opponents to change their minds." The argument on public ownership for rail, mail, water and energy, has never been stronger.

The party should labour for the Britain it wishes to built instead of hoping one more technocratic report will convince another 2.75% of the public that change could soon be required

I don’t understand why people are surprised by all of this. One is a competent politician the other was a floundering technocrat
Burnham seems to have come out of the triple lock thing completely unscathed. Remarkable given how the winter fuel allowance debacle managed to nuke Starmer’s premiership entirely.

Yeah I think the person sharing not knowing geography almost certainly doesn’t excuse the actions of the rioters

The problem with these early election takes is they ignore the visible trend of the Tories sharp growth. An election campaign shifts voting patterns as decisions actualise. During the last election labours lead fell by 10ptp
This is really ideal for Labour — the Green Party and Lib Dem vote has come crashing down, giving Burnham a dominant electoral position, while the right is disastrously evenly split between Reform and Tory. There may be no better opportunity than this to go to an election.

It’s the rule of “and what are you gonna do about it?”. Wins every time - even if the courts rule something you just ignore them
Everyone thinks it's Article V allowing the Constitution to be amended, but in reality it's Article III. Theoretically, nothing stops a party with a majority in Congress and the White House from abolishing all lower courts, establishing new courts in their place, doubling the size of the Supreme Court, and, in doing so, gaining absolute control over the Judiciary at all levels of government and thus eliminating any opposition to whatever policies they'd like to impose. You want to sue Congress when it grants sweeping powers to the President? The lower courts don't even stay the law. You appeal to the packed Supreme Court? They refuse to hear the case. You complain that the President and Congress have overstayed their term in office? The courts rule that the Constitution does not mandate Federal elections every two years during a state of emergency. You take to the streets and protest? The President declares a state of rebellion and Congress suspends habeas corpus. Any political party sufficiently united in its desire to completely destroy the political system, and having obtained even the slimmest majorities in both the legislative and executive branches, can essentially overthrow any republican system of government. All of this is procedurally allowed. There is no constitutional order, including our own, that can ultimately guarantee its own continuation through constitutional procedures alone.

Labour wasn’t even founded when the Republicans and Democrats becoming the rulers of America’s two party system
Britishers really flirted with the idea of having interesting politics for about half a year before deciding that the 1000 year two party reich must continue.

Land value and general wealth aside. Presenting an influencer couple’s home as “a construction worker” and comparing with an conceptualised Spaniard is just nonsense
Mirad la casa de un currela de la obra medio en el medio oeste americano. Hay españoles ganando 1500 euros que de verdad piensan que viven mejor que el estadounidense medio.

TCPA47 obsessives are such a larp. They refuse to acknowledge the majority of their disdain originates from subsequent legislative changes

The first option isn’t using the US constitution to become a dictatorship is it effectively using the constitution to amend itself into a different constitution
The most plausible answers are just that: 1. Article V can be used to amend itself, possibly to amend away all republican structures within the Constitution, save "equal suffrage in the Senate." This is debated. 2. You can just admit new states, theoretically unlimited numbers.

Ultimately all this shows why STEMmers. should be prohibited from speaking in public

It is in fact exactly what we have had in Westminster for well over a decade and is frankly the exact opposite of what we need
“No war is inevitable, no life is worth less than another.” “When some were betting on bombs, we said no to war.” “When it was demanded we raised military spending to 5%, we said no to cutting the welfare state.” We need these principles from MP’s in Westminster.

Except she’s a minister responsible to parliament. Major policy announcements like this occur in parliament so they can be followed by parliamentary questions. This is the foundation of the accountability in our system of government
‘Can’t be bothered.’ She’s in Aberdeen, with people it’ll impact and not politicians who just want to get their own message across.

It’s actually very simple: voters don’t like technocrats

Yes because elections happen in the system the country uses

No the election system wasn’t rigged
41% of the French people voted for the Communists and Socialists at this election, 46% for the right wing Gaullists. Sure, the seats represented a swift counter-revolution to the general strike and barricades, but let’s not lie about facts. The electoral system was rigged

Given the lefts ringing endorsement of the destruction of the public realm this weekend, we are about two days away from them claiming the riots were actually far-right agitators
