You've basically seen the industry segment into two camps that almost all blockchains fall into. One group has medium-to-low performance targets and certain levels of decentralization as the goal. XDP adds a lot of complexity for little to no benefit because the limiting factor is what the network wants to do. The other group is achieving much higher performance, but doing so by either using a single sequencer or a geographically limited small cluster. Most of these are just relying on cloud networking to solve problems. Solana is the only network today that I'm aware of that is aiming for a high node count across multiple countries, and high performance.
