Indeed, same as Putin pursues his own interest, not "russia's security concerns" or whatever BS some kinds of pseudo-academic vatniks come up with.

It´s not a national policy for national interest. It is Trump’s policy for Trump’s interest. And his handler’s of course.

The US is willing to betray its closest allies in Europe, a market of 450 million people and an economy worth nearly $20 trillion, just to cut shady, corrupt deals with Putin's Russia, an economy roughly the size of Italy's. What an absolutely insane foreign policy.

People still talk about the foreign policy of the Trump administration as if (a) it's designed to advance US national interests, rather than private ones and (b) there's a reasonable expectation of competence and coherence. Neither of these things is correct.

2/ Vivaldi followed a less heralded but extremely successful Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south. Ukraine liberated over 627 square kilometers in the Oleksandrivka direction and cleared over 300 square kilometers of Russian infiltrators between January 29 and August 12, 2026, driving the Russians largely out of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and securing part of its southern flank. Ukrainian forces liberated 26 settlements during the Oleksandrivka counteroffensive, emphasizing Ukraine’s ability to make relatively significant tactical advances.

It is unclear whether Putin is lying about Russian gains or being lied to by his own military—or both. Russian military correspondents constantly complain of what they call “beautiful reports” that Russian military units send to higher headquarters, claiming gains they have not made. Ukrainian forces say that they have been able to use the Russian military’s own internal culture of lying to their advantage, luring Russian troops into traps because the Russians think that they are moving through territory they control. Leaked Russian military maps show phantom gains, often matching Putin’s claims. The pervasive lying within the Russian military is a problem for Russian soldiers, but likely an advantage for Putin, as it supports his own efforts to present Russian forces as advancing and winning when, in fact, they are doing neither.
Ukraine, not Russia, has held the initiative in key sectors of the frontline for much of the year. Ukrainian forces have decisively defeated the main Russian offensive intended to complete the seizure of Donetsk Oblast in 2026. Ukrainian forces operationally defeated the Russian northern pincer in the Lyman direction and defeated the Russian military command’s plan to conduct a wide encirclement of Ukraine’s Fortress Belt. Ukraine’s Operation Vivaldi resulted in the liberation of around 277 square kilometers and 16 settlements north and northeast of Lyman over four phases that Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps Commander Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi began announcing in September 2026, although the operation likely began around March 2026.

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers now attempting to combat Trump's constant groveling and servitude toward his Russian master, warning banks, fuel distributors and port authorities against facilitating shipments of Russian diesel into the United States, arguing that such trade risks channeling American money into Moscow’s war against Ukraine and that they'll face legal consequences for doing so.

Yatsenyuk: This year Putin made only minor advances. Russia has lost 1.5 million people. For Putin, they are cannon fodder. Any normal country would take that as a signal to stop and find a way out of the war. He doesn’t. He still believes he can occupy Ukraine. 4X

Yatsenyuk: Putin started these so-called fake negotiations. He has never negotiated with Ukraine. Period. He is only buying time, trying to get the Americans on his side and drive a wedge between the US and the EU, while he keeps shelling Ukraine’s peaceful cities. 2/

Ex-Ukrainian PM Yatsenyuk: This winter will be terrible. Russia makes 70 to 100 ballistic missiles a month. Add North Korea’s supply, and it’s about 170. To shoot them down, we need 130 Patriot interceptors at best, 260 by protocol. Right now we have zero. 1/

This level of inconsistency over Brexit by perceived sensible Tories to advance their political careers is one of the reasons why I quit the party in 2020. – at Dunakiliti, Magyarország
2026: Jeremy Hunt says we can't have Freedom of Movement with the EU because young people will not have jobs 2019: Jeremy Hunt saying he would tell people they have to lose their job because of Brexit, but he would do so "with a heavy heart" My view: Jeremy Hunt's position on jobs and Brexit is a remarkable example of political hypocrisy. In 2019, he was prepared to accept British workers losing their livelihoods as the price of Brexit, expressing sympathy while defending a policy that could destroy their businesses. Now, in 2026, he invokes the prospect of young British people losing out on jobs to oppose restoring freedom of movement. Apparently, British jobs were an acceptable sacrifice when Brexit was the objective, but suddenly become a priority when closer European integration is being discussed. And he conveniently ignores that freedom of movement would also give young Britons the opportunity to work across 27 EU countries. You cannot credibly defend policies that put people's livelihoods at risk, then present yourself as their protector when it suits your political argument.

Apparently Putin’s conviction that his gofer Trump will bend weak, quarrelsome Europe to their will was greatly misplaced.
Putin's Foreign Policy Aid Ushakov confirms that the Kremlin managed to con Trump into attempting to force Ukraine's surrender, but the rest of Europe stepped in to block the moron American President.

Different Leave figures promoted different destinations. Norway-style arrangements were openly discussed, and Norway participates in the Single Market with free movement. So it is historically incorrect to retrospectively compress every Leave vote into: 17.4 million people voted specifically to end freedom of movement. Free movement was a major issue in the 2016 campaign, amplified by Nigel Farage’s notorious “Breaking Point” poster, which was widely condemned as racist. But it was NOT the proposition on the ballot paper. Yesterday @bbclaurak repeatedly treated freedom of movement as the defining core of the 2016 Brexit decision. She explicitly told @AngelaRayner that free movement was “at the heart of the Brexit debate” and repeatedly pressed her on whether it should return. But the actual referendum question asked only whether the UK should remain in or leave the European Union. It did not ask voters whether Britain should: • leave the Single Market • leave the customs union • end freedom of movement • or adopt any particular model of Brexit. Those choices came afterwards. 2016 decided EU membership. It did not write every subsequent interpretation of Brexit permanently into the constitution.
Well with Farage saying "Be like Norway" and one of the leaders of Vote Leave expressly saying that we'd stay in the single market, it's hard to imagine why voters thought we could have a Norway model...

Zelensky says the US has held up air-defence missiles for Ukraine for nearly a month. Russian missiles and drones have not stopped coming for Ukrainian cities. The interceptors meant to protect those cities have been delayed. Trump can dress his dealings with Putin up however he likes. Holding back weapons that protect Ukrainian families gives the Kremlin an advantage at their expense. To people sheltering from the next attack, a month means waiting in fear, not filling out forms.

A very consequential fallout of the students' victory in Serbia is that Russian intelligence will have to find a new home for its hundreds of spies parked at, or using support from the security apparatus of, or even using passports issued by, Serbia.
