What did you do over the easter? This Oystercatcher decided it was time to leave its wintering ground in Pontedeume 🇪🇸 and head back to 🇮🇸 with a easter stop in 🇮🇪! Been a week now so lets see when it takes on the last leg of the trip! #ornithology

Meanwhile, its partner is spending the winter at a much colder climate! It never left 🇮🇸, not even the capital area. Let’s see if they will see each other on the breeding site in a few days. 💍

What do we know about #Oystercatcher migration? On this day in 2015, this #WaderTales blog was published, encouraging people to look out for colour rings. 🎂 wadertales.wordpress.com/201… Thread about what we now know, thanks to birdwatchers 👇 #waders #shorebirds #ornithology

The research is continuing, as @solvirunar tries to work out more about the behaviour of youngsters and their recruitment to the breeding population. Please keep reporting colour-rings! Thanks! #waders #shorebirds #ornithology

What if scientific journals would have such nice photos?! @gollmundur joined me in the field this summer to caputure photos of my little furballs and their parents. I might just copy paste Erik’s Pomrenke story at @Iceland_Review into my Phd intro! What a writer!

This article could be copy/pasted with minor change, Iceland instead of Norway. Poultry is not the concern… the populations we are legally obligated to protect are! We are barely monitoring the populations nor taking AI samples from dead birds. birdlife.org/news/2023/08/09…

Looks like there is going to be another #volcanic #eruption in #Iceland. It's not going to be under a glacier so no ash - this time. Volcanic ash fertilizes central Iceland - good news for breeding #waders: wadertales.wordpress.com/201… But not at the time! wadertales.wordpress.com/201…

Can anyone tell me to which scheme this colour-ringed #sanderling belongs? It's not registered with @WaderStudy and not on cr-birding.org either. Two orange rings left, one tall orange ring right tibia. Photo: Rob Speirs, 14 April 2023, Landguard Point, Suffolk, UK.

First Oystercatcher chicks have hatched in Iceland, according to @solvirunar. Will these fluffies migrate in the autumn? It depends on what their Dad does. Blog about fascinating paper by @VMendezAragon wadertales.wordpress.com/202… #waders #shorebirds #ornithology
