Since the start of the 2024-25 season, Manchester United have won just 32 Premier League games out of 84. Twelve of those wins came in a 17-game run after Michael Carrick took over last season. Those four months aside, they have been dreadful for two years. They have had two strong spells (one under Erik ten Hag in the middle period of 2022-23, one under Carrick in the second half of last season) in five years. Beyond that, under a succession of managers, there have been long periods of dysfunction, discord and disinterested performances that leave you wondering what on earth this team is meant to look like. And that is a reflection of the club’s ownership, a regime that has taken so much out of United — well over £1billion ($1.3bn) in interest payments, refinancing costs and bond buybacks to prop up the Glazer family’s ownership after their leveraged takeover 21 years ago. When fans wonder why a club with £677.6million revenue has been under pressure to bring down the wage bill, signing second-rate players and leaving gaps in their squad, it is partly because they are still paying a heavy price for years of mistakes in the transfer market and partly because the debt carries such a burden on the club’s finances. Then there is Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who arrived as a minority shareholder in early 2024 and spoke breezily about how he planned to restore Manchester United to greatness with a smart, strategic approach. How’s that going, Sir Jim? If anything, his decision-making has been even worse than that of the previous Glazer-led regime, which is really saying something. 📝 @OliverKay 🔗 nyti.ms/4Bs8GVG

22 years ago today, the most corrupt refereeing anyone has ever seen took place Reilly failed to send off 4 United players who should have seen red. What’s happening to United now is fucking bliss. I hope they crumble & get relegated, i genuinely do. The club & the team

Set-piece goals may be back, but the open-play football is what really moved me at the Emirates Arsenal’s constantly rotating midfield carousel was too much for Everton in the first half, forcing more involuntary gasps than obligatory chants Free piece⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/7720567…

When rivals say Arsenal aren’t entertaining anymore, they want us to be like Chelsea and Man United.

I'd feel bad for Man Utd but whenever I remember Gary Neville always talking sh.t about Arsenal, Evra calling us Netflix FC, van Der Sar saying Raya isn't a top goalie, & the onfield injustice Wenger faced over the years, I just keep wishing for their continued downfall.

I must say, it was difficult hearing the hurt in Gary Neville's voice at the end of that game, so I turned up the volume on the TV and could hear it much better.

So the Man City, Abu Dhabi sponsored bot farms completely misjudged how well they could manufacture consent from Aston Villa fans about City's cheating. You can fiddle with the books, but you can't fiddle with fan sentiment unfortunately.

25th October 1986 Arsenal 3 (Rocastle, Hayes 2(1p)), Chelsea 1 A 4th straight league win pushes the Gunners up to 4th in the table due in no small part to the #Arsenal Number 4, Steve Williams. He's now as effective off the ball as he is on it - the George Graham effect.
