In this extraordinary post-election euphoria, .@nytimes writers compete furiously between themselves and with The Editorial Board for whose ideas for the Dems to start working on are the most boldly incrementalist.

Right now... Republicans have way more interest (than Democrats) in removing Trump ASAP... if they have the intelligence of a 12-year old, that is... which I doubt.
The plot of Idiocracy coming alive.

Hope Tesla ending the Cybertruck marks the end of the era of "people fearing other people... hiding into a car with the size, look, and weight of a military vehicle." [wrote this in 2006... may have inspired Elon]

For weeks up to the elections, NYT's homepage was "celebrating" Elizabeth Holmes! Now... suddenly – Dustin Hoffman... someone with integrity(!) (besides talent)... wow! For a fu...ing CHANGE !?!

I know this is a predictable opinion from me but I don't agree with the strong emotional reaction against the anti-data-center movements that I've seen this week. As I see it, algorithmic progress means that whatever you would be able to do with more and bigger data centers in 2 years, you will be able to do with the data centers we have today in 4 years - probably sooner. So nothing remotely apocalyptically bad will happen from even extreme levels of success by anti-data-center people. Meanwhile we need all the time we can get to better harden the world against both already-visible cybersecurity issues and any bio and other risks soon to come. Science applications are bottlenecked by many things other than AI, so slowing AI down by one year will slow those down by much less than one year. Given this, a slowdown in compute hyper-scaling seems quite net good? Notice this is without any controversial "doomer arguments", RSI etc. Even if net-bad, it's certainly not worse than like 10+ other political things.

Trump: In Texas, Talafreako... @JamesTalarico: That’s Senator Talafreako. Hi America, I’m James Talarico, the guy who's been texting you every day asking for $5. Trump: In this economy, who can blame you? Talarico: But I think, Mr. President, if we can work together, we can make life better for everyday Americans. It's clear people want something new. They want something different. I'm talking, of course, about SNL's cold opens. How many of these Trump freezes are they gonna do? Trump: Infinity. Talarico: Well, in that case, there's only one thing left to say. Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!

We need to stop using generic terminology. AI is not a monolith. There are critical things we need to do with AI for economic prosperity, there are things we may have to do for reasons of national competition, there are things we will at some point need to do carefully for the sake of charting and taming the computational universe, and there are things we should totally avoid doing at this stage of history, and maybe ever, if at all possible. If we can’t be precise about these issues because we’re saying vague things like “using coding agents to make AI progress should be illegal”, then we risk failing altogether. Each of the goals above depends on achieving the others. If we can’t prosper we can’t lead the world into the future. Everyone needs to internalize this. Democrats cannot subjugate themselves to antigrowth. Republicans cannot subjugate themselves to technocapital. Both roads lead to despair.

The terrorist's name is Michał Oksiński. He has known neo-Nazi sympatheis. There is no tragedy that these motherfuckers won't try to exploit for their anti-immigrant agenda.
There was just a terrorist attack in Krakow Poland and five people were killed. Donald Tusk has been allowing migrants into Poland covertly. The Left wingers have recently been getting very bold there. We don’t know if it was a migrant or a Leftist yet, but we know this is NOT normal for Poland. This is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. We’ve even lost Poland.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Polish police confirmed the sole perpetrator of the Krakow shooting is a Polish citizen. The motive remains under investigation with no reported connection to migrants. x.com/kwpkrakow/stat… krakow.pl/aktualnosci/34… bbc.co.uk/news/live/cq3d…

russian refineries burn so often is doesn’t even make the news anymore. There’s a very real chance russia could implode just like it did in the 90s. It’s a very young and fragile state despite what it pretends to be. There’s only so long you can run an empire on bullshit

Big: Kris Kobach, the Kansas attorney general, one of the country’s most notorious far-right figures who charted the way for Trump’s election denialism well before Trump got to it, has lost his reelection bid. Democrat Chris Mann will be new Kansas attorney general, AP calls.

As of now... 22 states with Dem trifecta... 16 with Republican one. (from 16 Dem and 23 Republican before Nov 3rd)
Democrats now have governors and control of both statehouse chambers in 6 more states: Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
