I do hope Monty Don’s successor keeps ‘Jobs for the Weekend’. My gardener and I have always understood which of us Monty meant.

Lucy told me to write my name with a sparkler. I asked whether a calling card would suffice. Apparently this is precisely the sort of question I must stop asking.

The housing market is doing something most people have never experienced.
Sales have collapsed.
Prices remain near record highs.
Buyers can't afford to buy.
Sellers don't want to sell.
And somehow people are still calling this a housing shortage.
This isn't a healthy market.
It's a frozen one.

A notice from the Department of Personal Reflections:
Following a comprehensive review, it has been determined that if you are going to make a change then you have to start with the person in the mirror. Buying a new mirror is not the answer.

My dangling modifier is impeccable. It’s other people’s syntax that tends to become unsteady in its presence. 🧐

I see Tyson Fury is sparring again. Apparently he can put a man down with a single punch. I can do much the same with a raised eyebrow and a carefully placed subordinate clause.

I'd like to say that today I have been better, stronger, faster but recovery is not like the bionic man. Heart meds are making me feel very lightheaded and very tired. Having major bowel surgery combined with being permanently nil by mouth also means feeding is a huge challenge. I will never give up.

MARGIN CALL (2011) saves Jeremy Irons for nearly the final stretch, then gives him one of the movie’s best entrances. John Tuld walks into a room full of people panicking about billions and casually asks, “So what’s the problem?” Perfect.
What supporting or even bit-part actor completely stole every scene they were in?
Not necessarily the biggest performance or the most important character. Just that actor who walks into a scene and suddenly becomes the only person you can watch.
Jack Black in HIGH FIDELITY (2000), Sam Rockwell in MOON (2009), Brad Pitt in TRUE ROMANCE (1993), James Gandolfini in TRUE ROMANCE (1993), Pete Postlethwaite in THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK (1997), Chris Tucker in THE FIFTH ELEMENT (1997), Marisa Tomei in MY COUSIN VINNY (1992) and Stephen Root in OFFICE SPACE (1999) are all perfect examples.
Sometimes a movie can have an incredible lead cast and still have that one supporting actor who shows up for five minutes and somehow makes you wish the entire movie was about them.
Who’s your ultimate scene stealer?

Resilience isn’t bouncing back. It’s the slow, painful & patient work of putting yourself back together piece by piece, day by day. This photo doesn't show the pneumonia I have, the pain I am in from surgery or how I struggle to lift anything. It does show I am not rolling over!

How very Canada to contemplate joining Europe without making a scene. We managed to leave with all the composure of an aunt denied her usual chair.
