Tempe has turned off its Flock automated license plate reader system and will end its contract with the company. The cameras are no longer collecting license plate data, and Tempe will not seek another company to replace the system. While the cameras have helped Tempe Police solve crimes, recent misuse of automated license plate reader systems in Arizona and nationwide has raised concerns about the risks that come with the technology. Tempe Police has found no misuse of its own Flock system. Flock will remove its cameras, and previously collected data will be automatically deleted after 30 days unless it is connected to an ongoing case or investigation. Read through the slides to learn more about the decision and what it means for Tempe.

CHART OF THE DAY: Venezuelan oil production level over the last 100 years. What comes next? The oil reserves are still there — but political stability, lots of money, and time are needed to see a revival.

I think more about energy and factory base tbh Chips are stuff that fill the infrastructure, can be GPUs or whatever else - governments job is to support the enabling infra, they don’t need to own any chips etc

The two biggest narratives about AI right now are that (1) it’s a massive bubble (i.e. totally fake) and (2) about to give rise to superintelligence (i.e. totally real). Both narratives can be fake (which is what I believe) but it’s very unlikely that both can be true.
